ABOUT OLD TOWN HALL

Designated a property of cultural heritage value, Old Town Hall offers the historical setting you've been looking for to host your upcoming nuptials.Located at 38 John Street South in downtown Aylmer, Ontario, Old Town Hall is a grand example of Italianate architecture and has bee nused since the late 1800s as a municipal center of Aylmer and area. The upper floor contains one of the few remaining Opera Houses in the province. It is centrally located in the core area and serves as a singular memorial to the social, cultural and civic life of the community.

This building, built in 1874, has served as the Town Hall, Police Station, Mechanics Institute, and Opera House of mid-Victorian Aylmer. Some of the architectural features include romanesque windows, a gilded balcony rail, and a replica of the Union Jack flag painted on its ceiling. While grand in scale, the brickwork is deft, giving the building a light and delicate feel. It was restored in 1982 and now houses the town library on the first floor and the opera house on the upper.
