Alton Mill Arts Centre is a one-of-a-kind heritage venue located in Caledon, Ontario. Tucked away on the tranquil banks of Shaw’s Creek, it is home to an art gallery, museum, artist studios and artisanal shops, and hosts wedding and other events to help support its Arts madate. Dating back to the 1880s, this lovingly restored stone mill offers a romantic and unique backdrop for couples tying the knot. The mill features privacy and scenic surroundings, yet is conveniently located an hour’s drive from Toronto.

Facilities and Capacity

When you book your wedding at Alton Mill Arts Centre, you can hold your ceremony and reception in the venue’s idyllic event spaces. The 19th-century industrial-chic venue boasts beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces that surround you and your guests with art and nature. You can exchange vows among the serene millpond while the waterfall provides a soothing soundtrack to your special day. The property features lush greenery or a blanket of sparkling snow depending on which season you marry in.

Our largest space is the Annex Courtyard, formed by the restored stone walls of the original wool warehouse topped with a spectacular seasonal tent roof. Inside the mill, you can choose from several function rooms and galleries for your reception. The main indoor reception space are the Millrace Room and abutting Turbine Room. It also abuts the Waterfall Courtyard where your guests can step out to mingle outdoors. The Headwaters Arts Gallery is available for a post-cetemony cocktail reception or as an addition to the main indoor reception space. This venue can accommodate weddings of up to 160 attendees in the warmer months, 140 in winter.

Services Offered

Alton Mill Arts Centre offers a wide array of services to ensure your special day leaves a lasting impression on all in attendance. Their standard wedding package includes the use of three function rooms and the courtyards, ensuring you and your guests have ample space to celebrate. Their events team is happy to coordinate with artists to provide portrait demonstrations and other entertainment for your loved ones. You can organize catering with one of our preferred caterers for the highest quality dishes and service. Alternatively, you may work with an outside caterer of your choice for an additional fee. The property hosts an officiant, a floral arranger, a jewellery maker and even a tattoo artist! In addition to weddings, this venue can accommodate photo sessions, showers, engagement parties, and rehearsal dinners.

Alton Mill Wedding Venue

My husband and I recently got married at the Alton Mill earlier this October and we couldn't be happier with how everything went! Martin and Samantha were so helpful with the planning as well as everything else on the wedding day. This venue is such a hidden gem, we couldn't recommend it more to our family and friends looking to have their wedding or host an event. Beautiful art, scenery and history. We will definitely be back to visit! Thank you for everything.

Beautiful, fun, and timeless

Our wedding at Alton Mill Arts Centre was nothing short of perfect.
The space has gorgeous, diverse, picture-esque spots around every corner and our guests were very impressed. Martin and Sam were very helpful in orchestrating the day-of schedule and were quick to respond to any of our questions. Would highly reccomend for any couple looking to get married in a fun and photogenic venue.

Our dream wedding!

We had both our wedding ceremony and reception at Alton Mill and I cannot recommend this venue enough. It had a little bit of everything; gorgeous, rustic stone walls, beautiful greenery, a waterfall with a courtyard beside it, etc. I worked closely with Samantha from Alton Mill and she did a fantastic job. I had a million questions leading up to the event and she was happy to answer all of them and really helped reduce any stress for the big day. On the wedding day everything went so smoothly and the venue looked so beautiful. Thank you to Samantha and everyone at Alton Mill for making our day so special!

My Dream Venue!!

Alton Mill is the most stunning venue I have ever seen, and I am so happy that I got married here. It's rustic, elegant, and artsy. Everything from the first meeting, to discussing logistics, to the day of, everything was seamless and perfect. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Dreamy & Romantic Wedding Venue

Trying to plan a wedding during COVID is tough, but the team at the Alton Mill Arts Centre was extremely helpful, professional, and kind throughout the process.

We absolutely LOVED the venue, it was romantic, historic, and overall naturally beautiful. There are so many different spaces to explore, such as the art galleries, waterfall, courtyard spaces, the pond, forest areas, and more. We got the most lovely photos from our AMAZING photographer Laura May, which we'll attach here to give you a sense of the property. It reminded a lot of our family of a Tuscan-type wedding with an artsy flare.

There are some extras to consider, such as upgrading tables & chairs (the tables & chairs they have are not the most aesthetic if that's something you care about), additional fees if you'd like to bring in non-recommended vendors (ie. catering or decor), and string lights for the waterfall courtyard.

If you're planning on partying, the Town of Alton has strict noise restrictions which also make for an interesting situation. While the dinner can be held in the beautiful Annex Tent, the dancing will most likely need to be moved into the basement of the building in a space called the Millrace Room. This space has lower ceiling heights but still provided for a great environment. The transition from dinner to dancing was a little awkward, but all in all not a big deal in the end.

Overall, so happy we were able to host our event here and look forward to visiting the centre many times in the future.

Chef Kouprie has “only lived up here [in the country not far from Alton] for six years. I thought there would be an opportunity for me. I came up to run and chef at the Globe restaurant but I didn’t stay for long.

“I’m so thankful that I’m up here,” he went on to say. “My family and the Grants met on vacation at a resort and then we met again here and [it has worked out very well]. The Pond Gallery will host the restaurant and it will service the snack bar downstairs. This all has to happen together.”

Martin Kouprie is a chef by training, commenting, “I’ve been cooking longer than I’ve done anything else.”

His training was primarily acquired by working for the best chefs, back in the day when they had a trial system, telling us that chefs don’t do that anymore. Many times they hired an employee on merit.

Chef Kouprie went to Humber College to complete his credentials by achieving his Certificate Chef de Cuisine (CCC).

For 20 years, his Toronto restaurant Pangia was located at Bay and Bloor.

The Chef’s background is wine, “The Alton Mill is about the local experience, to experience the terroir.”
