The perfect venue
TLDR; if you're looking for an outdoor venue in Kelowna, I STRONGLY recommend booking a viewing with Amanda and Nadene. It was the absolute PERFECT venue and I've rambled below outlining all the reasons why.
My wife and I got married on June 15, 2019 at Brook & Barn. It's difficult to put into words just how incredibly magical and seamless the event was because of Amanda and Nadene who manage this absolutely perfect venue.
We booked this fully outdoors venue for our ceremony and reception in early 2018 for the following summer (June 2019). In that time, Amanda and Nadene helped us so - from making suggestions on ceremony sites, floorplans, putting together contingencies in case of poor weather, choosing where to take photos, and more.
The venue is completely outdoors, surrounded by orchards and the original buildings that were initially built on the huge property. Before our ceremony we did posed/family photos in the orchards at the top of the property which overlooks the valley, as well as down at their original bunkhouse and other old and charming buildings.
As guests arrived later in the afternoon, our wedding party and I hung out in their air conditioned cabin (which we called "backstage" :P) which had a kitchen, livingroom area, bedroom, and private washroom. It was great to have a place to chill out for a few minutes before the ceremony and also give our vendors a back-stage to do what they needed to do.
When it was time for the ceremony, the venue drove us (in our car) from the cabin over to the bunk-house where we "hid" before walking down the aisle. We were going to do a pre-ceremony toast in the bunk-house which the venue offered/planned to have ready for us, but we opted not to because we'd already had some in the cabin.
The ceremony location was incredible - we did it on a large grassy area nestled between the original bunk-house, the creek, the orchards, and the reception area. Amanda and Nadene had the ceremony area all set up for us (chairs, benches, and the altar) and helped coordinate our day-of coordinator in setting up a table with water, sangria, and some handheld fans in the nearby shaded area for guests to mingle in the shade before the ceremony.
Next comes the reception (the best part!!). Nadene and Amanda took care of moving the chairs and removing the extra tables/furniture we had at the ceremony area and brought them all over to the reception area right away. At least from my (bride) point of view, this happened totally seamlessly and they stayed well out of the way of guests.
We opted to have a burger/hot-dog BBQ to keep the "backyard wedding" feel for our guests, and had some friends come bus tables after dinner. Since we bought all of our table settings ourselves, we had to have the dishes washed and ready to be packed back up to take away after the wedding. We had folks appointed to doing this but at one point my wife went into the cabin area for something, and found Amanda and Nadene in the mix of people hand-washing dishes!!!! This was such a pleasant surprise and not at all expected of them, but still highly, highly appreciated.
Amanda and Nadene did everything they could to help out our team of helpers and honestly they went so incredibly above and beyond. They felt 100% part of the team and it was such a pleasure getting to know them throughout the process of planning our wedding at their venue.
Now, on to the venue itself: it was 100%, beyond a doubt, incredibly and unbelievably beautiful and perfect. It is all outdoors but the reception area (the open-air barn) was covered so it provided a beautiful shady place for our guests to sit down for dinner. The recently added dance room was BEAUTIFUL and caught the "golden hour" sunset which is where we had our first dance (and the photos are spectacular). The dance room allowed us to keep the music blasting late as to avoid disturbing their neighbours, which was great because being able to have a bumpin' dance floor was really important to us.
There are so many spectacular areas of this property to use for photos, ceremony site, and reception area. We had the reception in the open air barn and *barely* had to decorate at all since the grounds were beautiful and spoke for themselves. B&B provided round tables and chairs for our guests, so all we did was get table cloths, place settings, and had some simple centerpieces (dried lavender and eucalyptus, and little lanterns with battery-powered candles inside). The open air barn is rustic and beautiful - it can totally be dressed up to be formal or lightly decorated (if at all) to make it feel warm, welcoming, and casual yet classy.
We had full use of the HUGE lawn beside the open air barn, where we placed our bar, gift table, a bunch of lawn games, and B&B scattered some benches throughout the field for guests to sit under the shade of the trees. The grass was so lush which felt amazing on my feet once I had to kick off my heels. Kids loved running around on the field and their parents could still see them and interact from their tables under the open-air barn.
During the day, the entire property was beautifully lush and green, and in the early evening the field next to the open-air barn was shaded by nearby trees, which was a nice break from the hot day (it got to ~32 degrees that day!).
As the sun went down, the property took on a whole new look. We captured some amazing photos with our photographer at the "golden hour" where everything you saw looked magical and lit up by the warm sun. As mentioned, the sunset streamed into the dance room during our first dance (I think around 8:30pm??) and made for AMAZINGGGG photos and such a romantic mood.
At midnight we turned the music off and my wedding party and some family started to take down the decorations and tables. Nadene was right in there with us helping dump half-drank drinks, collecting dishes, garbage, and clearing the tables. We ended up being out of the venue about 30 mins earlier than expected because of Nadene's help tearing things down!
We came back the next morning to load up our cars and once again, Nadene and Amanda were there and we were able to have a nice debrief with them and tell them how spectacular our day was. They are professional and yet so warm and approachable, it made them very easy and enjoyable to work with.
The work the owners of Brook & Barn did played a HUGE role in allowing my wife and I to have a completely stress-free wedding day (honestly, I'm not exaggerating here, there was zero stress) and allowed us to be 100% present throughout the day and not worry about moving chairs from here to there, or making sure our guests park in the right area, etc.
Long story short, go check out their venue and you'll see what I'm talking about!!!
