I’ve had the pleasure of working at The Barn 1906 for the past 4+ years, and I can honestly say it’s been a great experience. The venue itself is absolutely stunning which provides the perfect backdrop for any wedding. Management is approachable and encouraging, which makes it a joy to come to work. What I love most is how dedicated everyone is to creating the best experience for our couples and their guests. It’s truly rewarding to be part of such a passionate and professional team. If you’re looking for a beautiful wedding venue with a fantastic team, The Barn 1906 is definitely a place to consider!

My intention with this review is to be open, honest, and transparent about my wedding experience at The Barn 1906 so that I can help future brides make well-informed decisions. I honestly thought when I first hired them I’d be giving them 5/5 stars and would have nothing but positive things to say, but unfortunately, my experience was not that. A lot of what went wrong was completely avoidable if 1) they communicated effectively, and 2) didn’t bite off more than they can chew. Unfortunately because they are so business driven, the quality of service they were able to provide me did not suffice. Below are some events that you can be the judge of:

1. They advertise on their socials and tell you in person that they are your go-to built in wedding planner that will help you throughout your entire wedding planning journey. I know other brides have mentioned on here as well, but unfortunately, that was also not true for my experience. We were waiting weeks, and sometimes months for a response about very basic things which was very frustrating for myself and my fiancé. If they were just open and honest from the get go, it could’ve saved a lot of unnecessary stress and frustration. Another example is how they said they were going to help set up flowers after I reached out about it, and then the day of my wedding told me they weren’t going to help me anymore so I spent 2 hours with my bridesmaids trying to do it all when I was supposed to be doing other things.
2. Many of my decorations that I spent a lot of time making, and money purchasing, were either tossed by them or never returned (some of which I had pre-arranged to sell after my wedding). As well, I spent 7 years saving rose petals that my husband bought me over our relationship and they lost 4 bags full of them. They were supposed to be part of my wedding decor. How do you lose a very special, intimate, and important piece of someone’s wedding?
3. The day of my wedding a lot of their staff were incredibly rude to both myself and my guests which unfortunately led to a lot of people leaving my wedding early. For example, I had a few family members with health conditions that required a seat during the dancing part of the night but their staff cleared the tables, took their drinks and cups (our favours) away, and told them they had to leave… this was at 10pm and our contract was until 1am.
4. Another thing that was highly annoying was their staff stopped serving alcohol at 11pm and even refused to give out nonalcoholic drinks because they wanted to “clean up” (again, against our contract with them). In continuation with that, when we were cleaning up, we tried to take our empties with us since we provided our own alcohol, and the worker ripped the box out of a guest’s hand and told us that they keep all of our empties. I tried asking the owners about this, but didn’t get a response for over a month and then never got a reply again to my ensuing message.
5. Their staff forgot to pack up all of our rentals and so we had to drive 2 hours back to the venue, another hour to drop off items at the rental store, and then 3 hours back home which was a major inconvenience for us.
6. Over half of my guests didn’t get their favors, and the owners tried to make up lies blaming my 90 year old grandmother to cover the fact that their staff made a mistake. There was zero ownership on them as the owners. I understand that a lot of things that took place were not the actual owners’ fault. It was their staff’s fault. However, when you own a business you are responsible for your workers, and so if they do something that they shouldn’t do, you are ultimately responsible for them. They are a reflection of you and your business and they reflected them poorly. As a business owner, I would expect you to take accountability and reach out asking how you can make this right, but that never happened.
7. On the day of our rehearsal, and on my wedding day, they had multiple couples on site touring the venue. These guests got in our way multiple times and EVEN TRIED TO FORCE THEIR WAY INTO MY BRIDAL SUITE THE MORNING OF MY WEDDING (like excuse me, what?!). I found this to be completely disrespectful and an invasion of our privacy. Although I understand you are a business, I have paid for your venue for the day and during my contract hours you shouldn’t be imposing yourselves on the space that I’ve paid for.
8. They ask you to complete a questionnaire and write/draw out specific details for setup, timeline, etc. I spent countless hours across many days creating documents that were well organized, clearly mapped out, and none of it was followed at all. They set up everything completely wrong and my bridesmaids and I had to fix it all.

I know there’s a lot of “problems” above, but at the end of the day, I loved having my wedding at this venue. It’s a gorgeous place and the venue speaks for itself so you don’t really need a lot of decorations to make it look pretty. I would still recommend this place, but just know that you are completely on your own and I personally wouldn’t trust them with being responsible for setting up your wedding and packing things up appropriately. I would suggest you designate someone or hire someone so that what I experienced could be avoided. Monica, Laura, and Kim (owners) are very kind people and the main reason I chose to go with them was because they made you feel like family from the moment you stepped on their venue (which was completely different than any of the other 15+ venues we looked at). I don’t want to take away from the fact that they are really nice people, but I wish they wouldn’t have promised the things they did because that led to a lot of disappointment and frustration on my wedding day. I hope this can be helpful for brides who are making very important decisions on a day you dream about your entire life.

We are so thankful for the help of Kimberly and the Van Luyk family leading up to our day, their attention to detail throughout and of course the beautifully maintained grounds. We didn't have to worry about a thing on our day with the team at the barn 1906 doing the coordination for us. Highly recommend.

We had the perfect day. Kim, Laura, Monica and their team absolutely delivered. The venue was gorgeous and every detail was exactly what I visioned. They are so kind and are truly there to make your day perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better venue to have my wedding. They made the whole day go by smoothly, communicated with me really well and helped us stay on schedule. Even weeks later our friends and family are still talking about it! Thank you so much Barn 1906!! If you're debating getting married here, I highly recommend!

My Husband and I will forever be grateful to The Barn 1906 for providing us with the wedding venue of our dreams! To this day our friends and family tell us how incredible our wedding was and how much fun they had.
The Barn has it all - beautiful outdoor ceremony grounds perfect for photos/magazine worthy sunset photos, a STUNNING barn equipped with everything you need (harvest tables, lights, massive bar, elevated DJ space), awesome bartenders, and overall just the most beautiful setting for dinner, speeches, and dancing the night away. Oh and the bridal suite is PERFECT for a morning getting ready with your girls, such an added bonus to have that on site where you get to watch your guests and husband-to-be arrive from the window.
When all was said and done we were genuinely sad knowing we wouldn't be back and that our dream wedding was done. We'd do it all over again just to relive that beautiful day. We can only hope one of our friends will get married at The Barn so we can go back!

I was incredibly picky about my wedding venue, as a wedding photographer myself who had a very specific idea of what I was looking for. The Barn 1906 was beyond stunning, and so lovely to work with! Kim and Laura were lovely and so accommodating. All of my guests remarked on how well cared for the property is, and couldn't get over how green and lush the grass was in the middle of a huge heat wave (and as a photographer and a bride who walked barefoot most of the day, this was key!) The service was phenomenal, and the venue itself is beyond stunning! They took care of absolutely everything, were so professional and friendly, and made us all feel so welcomed! I cannot recommend The Barn 1906 enough!!!

WOW!! It is hard to find words to describe the amazing Family & Team who run The Barn 1906.
From day one Kim & her daughters were absolutely amazing, and through the two years of our engagement, they were there every step of the way.
Leading up to our day, Kim was always available to answer our questions and work with us through any scenarios. They continued to surprise us with their growing venue & additions which so graciously added to our big day.
On the day before/day of our event the team worked hard to help our vision come to life and ensured we were well taken care of.
The property is BEAUTIFUL and PRISTINE and we continue to get endless compliments on what a unique, beautiful, and well put together venue it is. We even heard that two of our friends who are huge farm boys got a grand tour of the property DURING our event!!

Planning a wedding during a pandemic was not easy. We had to change our date and Kim and the barn was very accommodating and allowed us to reschedule for the same year. We had the best day of our lives and it wouldn’t have been the same without the help/assistance of the barn and their lovey staff! Kim and her daughter last ate nothing short of absolutely amazing . The property is reasonably priced - the grounds are STUNNING and she works well with all vendors to ensure the day is flawless .
It honestly felt like I got a wedding mom with the inside scoop ; super responsive and helpful ! Her daughters were so sweet and all and all they made us feel more like family than a customer . I went to over 30 viewings for the right venue , not only was it the barn itself but it was Kim and her personality and honesty that sealed the deal
