The Union Bank Inn is a lovely boutique hotel formally known as the Union Bank of Canada. Located in downtown Edmonton in the business and arts district, this historical building is equipped with all modern and luxurious amenities. Be it a wedding, corporate meeting, or any other special celebration, the hotel has got it all covered. The Union Bank perfectly blends the old and the new together. The hotel is located just 30 minutes away from Edmonton International Airport. It is approximately nine km from Sherwood Park.

Facilities and capacity

The Union Bank Inn features three function spaces that include Madison's Grill, the Devonshire Room, and the Vintage Room. The private dining room is ideal for intimate celebrations while larger celebrations can take place in Madison's Grill or the Devonshire Room.

A signature collection of packages are available for clients to choose from. These packages can also be customized according to their taste and style. Set up and take down of the venue is taken care of by the staff itself. Some of the services offered by the business include:

Cuisine

Madison’s Grill is the hotel’s dining room that features delicious Canadian cuisines. All the meals such as breakfast, lunch, cocktail receptions, etc. are all catered by the business. Delectable entrees, salads, and desserts are offered by the business. Some of the mouth-watering dishes include steamed market vegetables, herb roasted chicken, cous cous pilaf, lemon meringue tart, and much more.

Accommodation

Lavish accommodation facilities are available for the guests here. The hotel has a total of 40 designer guest rooms and suites. Each room comes fully equipped with amenities such as fireplaces, fleece robes, in-room coffee, Bluetooth clock radios, Wi-Fi, and much more. There are two wings here, the Contemporary wing and the Heritage wing. The contemporary wing has 26 guest rooms while the heritage wing has 14 rooms.

History

While Edmonton was observing a huge growth, the branch manager of the Union Bank of Canada decided to build a new building to match the bank’s status. For this, Edmonton architect, Roland Lines was commissioned to do the work. The bank was then taken over by Royal Bank and was known to people as Northwest Trust Building for many years. It was opened as a hotel in 1997 when it was taken over by Diane Buchanan.

Overall Pleasant Experience

The room that we wanted for our wedding became unavailable due to renovations after we booked it. This was disappointing, however Union Bank Inn accommodated us in another room. It was not as nice as the initial choice, but was acceptable. The staff did a great job on the day of the event itself, accommodating the deliveries from our vendors and setting up the room for both ceremony and reception exactly to our specifications.

We booked our 85 guest wedding with the Union Bank Inn and couldn't be happier with the experience! The room is beautiful and doesn't require much (if any) added decor. The catering manager was always available to discuss details, provide suggestions and reassure naive wedding planners that everything was going to be perfect! Staying in one of their beautiful guest rooms was the perfect end to a perfect night.

The event went off smoothly minus a few hiccups of time.management (on my behalf). Union bank was gorgeous and their variety of napkin and table cloth colors available is definitely what set them apart from the other locations when it came to price, one less thing to rent. The event manager did switch in the middle of planning the wedding but she caught on quickly with what we wanted. Catering was delicious if not a little too pricey, flexible with sauces for the most part.

Dealing with the Union Bank Inn to coordinate my Reception really made the process enjoyable. Their catering manager is very easy to deal with and is very professional.

The room was elegently decorated and the staff did a very good job of delivering the food to the tables.

It was all that I hoped for!

Kristina and the staff @ UBI were fantastic. Part of the reason, my husband & I chose UBI was because of Kristina. From our first meeting with her, she left us with the impression she was professional, knowledgable and capable of handling any issues to ensure our day was perfect. We would definitely recommend UBI!

Working with Kristina and her staff at the Union Bank Inn was a wonderful experience - everyone was very professional, friendly, and welcoming. They were very accommodating in arranging things just as we wanted them. On our big day we didn't worry about a thing - we had total confidence that everything would go smoothly and be just what we hoped - and it was! Our guests loved the Giverny Ballroom and the guest rooms - such a beautiful hotel. We couldn't be happier with our choice of venue and catering for our wedding - thank you!

Such an amazing experience

We got married at the Union Bank Inn on August 22, 2020. I cannot say enough amazing things about our experience with them! We planned everything within a few months as we had to downsize and rebook our wedding due to COVID. Our event coordinator, Graham, was an absolutely pleasure to work with! He was so accommodating and took everything we said into consideration! They planned such an amazing day for us! The set up of the room was STUNNING! Like beyond my wildest dreams stunning! They made the whole day flow so smoothly and the food was DELICIOUS! We got so many compliments from our guests about how much they loved our wedding! And we had an amazing time too! Not to mention there were some great places within walking distance for photos which was great! I would highly recommend the Union Bank Inn as a wedding venue, just so beautiful and amazing staff, couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding!
