About

On WeddingWire since 2019

Choosing a wedding venue is a big decision. You have your very own unique vision for your wedding, and the venue plays an important role in your look, feel, and theme.

Getting married at Viamede means gathering your friends and family for a full weekend of memories – start with a Friday dinner, carry on with volleyball for everyone on Saturday morning, and end Sunday with a brunch to say goodbye.
At Viamede Resort, we want your uniqueness to shine and we want to help make your wedding vision a reality. Whatever you’re dreaming of, Viamede is Your Wedding Venue. Whether you want an outdoor wedding by the lake under a floral-lined gazebo or in our historic, rustic chapel, we will work with you to bring your dream to life.

Viamede specializes in the unique, the fun, and the personal. We have couples who let Chef dream up a surprise menu and others who ask Chef to make their grandmother’s apple pie recipe for dessert. Some want cozy and intimate, and others want tequila served with dinner. Some want Viamede-raised whole hog, slow-roasted over charcoal and maple chips, and others want a formal plated dinner. We’ve had live bands, Spotify playlists, and DJs, tuxedos with flip-flops, Hawaiian-themed weddings, and everything in between. And we loved them all.

Viamede was PERFECT!!!

My partner and I were looking for a venue where we could have our closest friends and family come stay onsite for a weekend (Fri-Sun), and Viamede fit the bill perfectly. I looked into multiple different venues but many were either far up north, and/or their prices were unclear or incredibly high, or required a high minimum of guests. When we looked into Viamede, all of the details for weddings and cost breakdown were right there on their website and was super clear and very reasonable. We reached out to their coordinators Deanna and Alex and they were often quick to get back to us via email or phone (unless if it was a weekend when they had another large event, which was perfectly reasonable and they'd get back to us on Monday). They clearly answered all of our questions and would often work with us when figuring out wedding day details. We mainly worked with Alex and she was FANTASTIC, she was knowledgeable and gave us suggestions when we were unsure on questions, she clarified questions we had and was very helpful on the day the wedding as well! The rest of the staff were also very helpful and polite, they helped me bring decorations into the main building and were always ready to help or answer a question.

We had heard that the venue had changed drastically since the derecho in May 2022, they lost cabins and surrounding trees, but we were extremely impressed at how Viamede had come back from such a devastating loss. In the time that we had booked with them in Nov 2023 to our wedding in Sept 2024 they had built two brand new cabins, a beautiful outdoor patio (where our rehearsal dinner was held) and took down some buildings by the water that were falling apart. All of the cabins were incredible, our guests were so impressed by how roomy and welcoming and clean they were, they were perfect for getting ready on the wedding day as well, many guests also enjoyed the enclosed patios and the amenities in the area such as swimming, boating, canoeing, and hiking. Our guests were also so happy that everything was on one site, so they could easily go change into more comfortable clothing or shoes during the reception, and there was no need to coordinate designated drivers or hire transportation as everyone was staying right there at Viamede.

Included in our wedding package we had a tasting onsite with a few other engaged couples, where the venue allowed us to enjoy the venue and stay overnight (all included in the package!). They accommodated us and our dog in the Hilltop building in the dead of winter, and even in winter when it was 20 below we adored how cozy and welcoming the main hall and room was.

The food was incredible, all of our guests were happy with every meal, food was brought right to the cabin where myself and my bridesmaids were getting ready so we never had to worry about going hungry. We had requested a specific soup dish and vegetarian dish for the reception dinner and the chef DELIVERED, we were so impressed!

The venue itself is beautiful. We got married by the water but they have an adorable chapel for an indoor option. We had the venue to ourselves and our ~70 guests, it accommodated families with young children and dogs as well. One guest brought his own boat and went fishing each morning, another guest took their young child swimming in the pool mere hours before the ceremony, but everything was onsite and no one worried about being late. We had our wedding party and couple photos taken on the dock, on the lake, and at Mount Julian, and the fall foliage was spectacular.

If you're looking for a intimate cottage venue where you have the whole venue to yourself, the price breakdown is clear, food and amenities are included in the price, where you communicate with excellent coordinators, your guests all stay on site and have the weekend to enjoy themselves, where the lake-front location is gorgeous and the food is spectacular, then look no further!!! I CANNOT tell you how prefect this venue was, and my husband and I can't wait to stay at Viamede again!

Wish it was better.....

I booked my venue very early as I fell in love with Viamede years ago...and ended up disappointed.

1. There was a tornado last summer that caused a ton of damage however, renovations were supposed to be done by the wedding, they weren't. Although they did very well at making the area tidy for the day of, there was no communication with me prior to my arrival. It was made worse by the addition steps down the aisle where there was once a ramp. This makes the wedding point inaccessible to anyonw with a walking disability and hard for young children or high heels. This could all have been made better by a simple phone call Also the cottages were purchased by a few of my guests and they were not ready.

2. Towards the end of our stay, there was some type of water pressure failure. Toilets wouldn't flush, and there was no running water. 99% of my guests has left by this point but some couldn't shower before they left.

3. The evening before the wedding day, there was very young, junior staff working. They tried their best but had little supervision or support it felt, and felt kinda helpless for any questions myself or my family had.

4. The wedding point minus the changes was beautiful, the food was amazing, and the view was breathtaking.
