Dream come true wedding at The Norland
Norland is an amazing place to hold a wedding! I would recommend this place to everyone and anyone! The staff really go above and beyond. In particular Alexandra (the event organizer), Trisha (the wedding planner) and Amy (the day of coordinator) were so wonderful. They are organized, helpful, and very friendly. There are so many beautiful spots within the Norland grounds that you don’t even have to leave the venue for wedding pictures. Norland is very accommodating to your wedding wishes and always ensures that you’re happy and that your wedding day is perfect!Norland is an amazing place to hold a wedding! Beautiful Venue with Great Staff
If you're looking for a venue to check all your boxes this is it. Basically like having a wedding planner. Ceremony, reception, furniture, food, beverage, staff and accommodations all included with the rental of the venue made it so easy to make this our dream wedding. Gorgeous gazebo out front for ceremonies with lush and fresh seasonal florals on the grounds. If you're looking for a venue to check all your boxes this is it. Basically like having a wedding planner. It's beautiful
There's no denying the beauty of the space. And our Event Manager (Nona) the night before and day-of was amazing.
However, as an Event Planner for over 20yrs, I knew what to look for in contracts/quotes and expected price increases from the time of booking, til the time of the event (that's why they say "prices subject to change") However, there were several things that really did surprise me. I was not anticipating a $5 price increase on each plated Entree meal item plus a $2 increase on every side (you have to chose a minimum of 2, which means an overall increase of at least $9/plate from the initial quote, less than 1yr ago) I've never seen an increase that high from any other venue I've worked with. We then decided buffet was the better option (which also had a significant increase, but had way more selection) and I'm so glad we did. The presentation of the buffet (which included labeling with dietary restrictions) was fabulous. There were some staffing issues I had, that I discussed in advance with our coordinator, before and after the event, and they were basically ignored or brushed over, which was disappointing because I felt like they were pretty easy to work with up until then.
At the end of the day, it is a fantastic space. But make sure to really ask ALL the questions up front (including what the average increase in price will be) read ALL the fine print, and maybe consult a pro who isn't directly linked to the hall, but has done events at the hall, to get honest feedback & suggestions in order to minimize last minute surprises (ie. access to the rooms upstairs, staffing, costs, etc) I read some of the other reviews and can say we experienced some of the same things. Some could have been changed, and others I understand circumstances and policies wouldn't allow for that. There's no denying the beauty of the space. Wedding Planner and Coordinator
The Norland is an excellent venue to host your wedding. It has the convenience of everything that you need right there. The rooms are perfect for the bridal party or family or the bride and groom to stay in the night before and night of.
The grounds are impeccable - the staff works so hard to keep the gardens and grass perfect for photo sessions all year round. Photographers love this location because you can't have a bad photo taken here.
The Norland staff is amazing and has everything that you need and more than willing to help. They are incredible to work with whether you are a vendor or a client. They are there to serve the Bride and Groom and their family and they go above and beyond.
The caterers, LA Chefs, do an exceptional job. Their staff before the event work with you to make sure that you are getting everything that you want and that everything is fully planned out. They are incredibly knowledgable about their services and the food they provide. The chefs are also willing to be accommodating for special requests. The staff on the day the event are always friendly and happy to help out. I have done a lot of events with LA Chefs caterers and have not experienced a bad meal or even an OK meal. Every time I have worked with them I have heard nothing but compliments and praise for their food and services! No matter if it is appetizers, brunch, dinner (buffet or plated), dessert, or late lunch it is always on-time and ready to eat.
The decorators are always willing to go above and beyond to give the bride (and groom) their vision for their wedding.
I cannot recommend this venue enough! I have ONLY had great experiences here and my clients have been nothing but pleased with their experiences! 100 000% recommend the beautiful Norland Historic Estates. The Norland is an excellent venue to host your wedding. Beautiful Venue Poor Management
I've been holding off with my review as I had mixed emotions regarding this venue and what we experienced. I've decided to be totally honest as I have been with my other vendors so I'll be highlighting the good and unfortunately a lot of negative that we experienced our day. First off the venue itself and grounds are stunning, absolutely beautiful. I can't say one word that negatively reflects the appearance of the venue itself.
Secondly, the young staff that work the event are pleasant, hard working and try their best to overcome any obstacles that present themselves. Unfortunately for us there were a lot of issues and false promises that we encountered. Our first issue was when we met with Alexandra for a venue tour, the information regarding the staffing the day of was far off what we encountered. We were described a full staff for the day of for set up and tear down, catering etc. Yes, they set up the tables, directly after the prior wedding. So there is absolutely no one on site except a venue coordinator the day of.
We arrived a little before 10 am, and thank God we had our own wedding planner with staff, as the room had been set incorrectly. Everything on the tables had been set up with someone else's place settings etc it all had to be torn down, repacked and reset with our items. This took a considerable amount of time as there were no event staff on site.
Secondly, we were advised that we had access to the house to get ready in at 10 am, absolutely false! We were shoved into one room, off the bar area, no chairs, no light etc. Makeup had to set up under the sky light by the bathrooms near the kitchen area. We didn't gain access to the house until 1 pm. Had we known that we'd of all been shoved into a room, with no access to the house then we would of gotten a hotel room to get ready in.
Due to this we have absolutely no getting ready photos, no photos of me getting ready with my mom etc. Totally unacceptable.
Third, we advised the venue we were bringing in our own wine, paying for corkage, well, good thing our wedding planner checked, as the coordinator who was supposed to be available to us all day had been cleaning rooms getting the house ready, our wine wasn't put in the coolers. Again our wedding planner and staff had to handle this.
Fourth, at 2:30 pm, and hour prior to our ceremony, I looked out a window, no ceremony chairs were set up, again, the ONE staff member on that day, was trying to get them out and set, again OUR wedding planner and her team had to stop and do chair set up.
Now all of this wouldn't be a big deal IF this was advised of ahead of time. Due to the staffing issues and lack of transparency our wedding team we hired and paid for had to spend time doing the Norland staffs job, and that took away from things they were trying to do for our own set up. Which effected some of our items we brought ourselves to be put out and set up.
It was planned and discussed with Trisha that come ceremony myself and my bridesmaids would enter out the staff entrance, and walk around the back of the house and come up the long driveway. NOPE, this was changed last min and we came out the venue doors and even though we were advised that the guests couldn't see in, they could and my groom, said he could see me, but didn't want to upset me. Big fat fail on the Norlands part.
Even with all of this we were trying to make the best of things, and unfortunately it just did not get better. We opted for a plated dinner, big mistake. The table service was a disaster. Some got meals right away and then instead of doing the remainder of the table the service staff would start serving another table. My daughters finance was left without a main course for approximately 20 min. He had to get up and go get one.
The meals while tasty were cold, not just a little cold but cold cold. The chicken was supposed to have a pesto sauce it had a smear of a pesto on the top and it had solidified to a paste. I wish I had a photo to show how unappealing it looked. I had the chicken my hubby the beef, we were served first and again it was very tasty but the food was cold. Our salads tasty, but they forgot the dressing and everyone's salad, dessert was amazing.
Our wedding planner and team handled the wine service for our tables, the bar staff didn't uncork the wine so our team was scrambling come dinner service, but got it done. After the dessert course no venue staff came to begin clearing tables. They were fed then left. Our wedding planner and staff again began cleaning tables.
My last issue, was one that I am very upset about, we chose not to stay at the venue that night. When we packed up are room in the house i left behind a diamond pendant and chain. Upon realizing we contacted out wedding planner and contact for the venue, they were notified and found it exactly where it was left. For some reason this staff member instead of locking it up in the office in the house left it on a table in the getting ready room and upon returning to retrieve it it was no longer there. We have text messages advising of this. The venues Owner was notified and while they empathize they have advised rhey will not be accepting responsibility. We have had to fill out a police report.
All in all our day was good, and we did have a good time celebrating with our family and friends, and other then the food issues our guests didn't know the extent of the issues we had. The owner has credited us a small amount back for the cold food, but at the end of the day our day which we had worked so hard to ensure it was as close to perfect as could be, was anything but and even a month later I keep going over all that went wrong. I hope this review in its total honesty helps other couples not have the same issues as the venue itself is gorgeous I just think management could be better

Good evening Jennifer, we appreciate and respect the time you took to leave your review with your feedback. As we have discussed in our conversations since your wedding, we are very sorry that your experience with the Norland did not meet your expectations, as this is certainly not the feedback that we normally get from our couples. Elegant Garden Party Wedding
Norland was an excellent location. They are tied to using LA Chefs as the catering because it is owned by LA Chefs. They were up front about fees, but did not factor them in when giving totals unless explicitly asked to do so. They have a strict 2 pm access to the lodgings on location which caused some issues with getting ready there. The getting ready space is very small and dark.Norland was an excellent location. Our dream "destination" wedding come true!
We'd never heard of the Norland before I met them at a bridal show in Calgary. A gorgeous, affordable, Southern-style mansion just two hours south? Somebody pinch me!
When told we were having our wedding in Lethbridge, people always asked if we were from there/why Lethbridge. Then I'd whip out my phone and show them this fabulous venue and watch their jaws drop. Needless to say, they understood!
The estate is stunning, and having the whole event from ceremony to photos and the reception all in one spot made it super convenient. The whole team was a dream to work with. They understood our needs (namely allergies) and worked very hard to ensure they were met. I'd like to specifically shout out Alex, Laura, Kelsea, Trisha, and the owners Dale and Maurine. Our wedding was absolutely perfect.
I also appreciated the handy list of recommended vendors the Norland had available, making vendor hiring decisions a piece of cake. We'd never heard of the Norland before I met them at a bridal show in Calgary. A gorgeous, affordable, Southern-style mansion just two hours south? Somebody pinch me!
