21 Jul, 2018The story of our wedding
We had a Doctor Who themed wedding on July 21st, 2018. Our colors were navy blue, silver and white. The day was rainy, windy and cloudy(which apparantly means good luck.) It was held in Hub Amateur Club in Glace Bay, on beautiful Cape Breton Island.
Because of the weather conditions, we had to change our plans from using our neighbour's backyard to going to Vespers by the Sea (which is now renamed Abbey by the Sea.)
If anyone like my husband and I like Doctor Who, you would be called Whovians. We wanted to make our wedding as personable to us as possible. So we did the following:
As I mentioned before, our colors were navy blue, silver and white. The bridesmaids wore navy blue, along with my husband and ring bearer(my grand-nephew/godson). The dresses ended up being three different shades of navy blue, which still looked just as stunning on them. My something blue was tiny blue bowties that were sewed onto my veil, along with sapphire earrings & necklace that were given to me by a dear friend of mine, whose been a "mom figure" to me in the past recent years. The flower girl wore a cream color dress with gold flecks in it. The groomsmen wore dress shirts, red bowties & suspenders (because bowties are cool).
Continue reading »Our wedding cake had Funko Pop collectibles as our cake topper. They were the Fourth Doctor and River song that we ordered from Amazon. The design on our wedding cake was in Gallifreyian(if I am reading it correctly, the design mean "Time and Relative Dimension in Space aka TARDIS). The exact same design is on our matchng wedding rings. We ordered our rings from wish.com. Our wedding cake was on top with the collectibles and the cupcakes were after that. It was marble cake(blue and white) with buttercream icing. They tasted better the second time around after freezing them for a little bit.
Our centerpieces, flower basket, boutineeres(that has little red bowties on them), corsages, and bouquets were sunflowers with a mixture of blue and white flowers. The sunflowers had two meaning behind them. One was to honor the Doctor Who episode with Vincent van Gogh painting of sunflowers & in memoriam of my two maternal aunts that passed away of ovarian cancer a few years ago. The centerpieces were Mason jars that were painted into a TARDIS. (Pinterest was a great help for that.)
Our cardbox was covered in beautiful blue fabric, with a mirror glued to it. Standing in front of the mirror was a "Weeping Angel".
Our co-MC's for the evening talked about not feeling the best and how they went to 10 doctors to find out what was wrong. Next thing we know, out comes a Sonic Screwdriver & the Fourth Doctor's 12 foot scarf. Needless to say, hubby and I laughed super hard at this. They did such a great job.
We had Doctor who signs up around the venue with our favorite Doctor Who sayings. We has five of them. "Hello Sweetie"; "Bowties are Cool"; "There's alot of things you need to get across the universe, ... warp drive, ... wormhole refractors, you know the thing you need most of all? You need a hand to hold."; "There's something that doesn't make sense. Let's go poke it with a stick." "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" (it's not a DW saying, but it has a pic of a TARDIS and a Sonic Screwdriver on it.)
Our photo backdrop was our own queen size duvet cover from our bed. Our friends were actually impressed with this one because it's the door to the TARDIS.
Our wedding invitations had a bride & groom silhouette by a blueish tree and a TARDIS on the right side of the invite with the following,"Through all of time & space, these two companions found each other." with all our information on it regarding ceremony, supper, and reception.
We ordered Doctor Who ice molds from Amazon, and 22lbs(yes that's a lot of chocolate)later, we had little chocolate Tardis and Daleks. The Fourth Doctor also always had a banana in his pocket, so we put marshmallow bananas along with the chocolate Tardis and/or Daleks in a silver box wrapped in cellophane. These were a huge hit!
Our wedding favours were bookmarks that also had two Doctor who sayings, with pictures of the Tardis, our names and our wedding date(July 21st, 2018.) - One saying was, "Rose before you do, there is something I have to tell you. You were fantastic. Absolutely Fantastic. And so was I". The other saying was,"I am and always will be the optimist, the hoper of far-flung hopes the the dreamer of improbable dreams".
We also had two Tardis. One was at our entrance with some bubbles and guest book (that was River Song's Diary with our signing pen also decorated with flowers). Our other Tardis was on our table where we were signing our marriage certificate.
The only thing that wasn't DW related was the Jamberry that I wore on my left hand, ring finger. When Brad proposed to me on Christmas Day 2016, he asked me to be "His Sally to his Jack" from Nightmare Before Christmas, which is one of my all time favorite movies. So I wore a Jack Skeleton Jamberry on my ring finger on my left hand to symbolize his proposal.
Our meal was catered by LCL Kitchen Goodies, owned by Sabrina Currie. Wedding favours & invites were done by Shea Cameron. Wedding cake and cupcakes by Helen Ann Burrows. DJ was by Ralph & Debbie. My hair was done by Beth Politte, owner of Salt Water Hair. Nails were done by Alisa Ryan (one of my bridesmaids). Jewelry was from Vintage Jewellers. Centerpieces, flowers, bouquets, boutineeres, corsages, flower basket & card box were all done by Melaney MacNeil. Brad's suit was bought at Tip Top Tailors. Doctor Who signs & wedding flutes were made by Judy Vaters. Photography was done by my cousin Richard Dean & Bria MacKenzie.
To everyone and anyone who helped, in any way, shape or form, to people that I am probably forgetting to say thank you for, we truly are thankful for each and everyone of them in our lives. Our Doctor Who wedding went off without a hitch, and was as stress free and drama free as possible. That's all we wanted and it was accomplished in spades. Our day was truly magical and amazing. Thank you simply wasn't enough.
