25 Mar, 2023The story of our wedding
It was 5 days before our wedding and my mom rushed into my room. 'Sera's water broke!' I was shocked, 'But she wasn't due for another month' I replied. 'Exactly, the doctors don't want her to go into labour and so they are keeping her in the hospital for the next 2 weeks to try and kept her from reaching that point.' Reality set in, here we were with barely anytime and my maid of honour was in the hospital.
The next couple of days passed incredibly fast, I was calling people in. My brother came home earlier from college to help out. With only 2 bridesmaids to begin with, I needed to find another person, even just a filler just for the image to work. I eventually decided to have my brother as my bridebro. My best friend as a stand-in Maid of Honour and for MC I had to call another friend to cover for her. Looking at all that she was going to do this weekend, My husband and I had to find 3 different people to fill her role and jobs.
The night before we decided to still have my sister sign the papers but we were going to have to figure out how to get it to her as she was transferred to another hospital an hour away. I called her up the night before and asked if she would want to sign them tonight or tomorrow after the ceremony. She told me that we should try for tomorrow as we would come after the wedding and see her in the hospital.

That morning I woke up bright and early feeling calm and content with the way things needed to be. Our ceremony was a morning one so I got ready, taking my time and spamming my sister with updates and pictures. I was surprised by how calm and relaxed I felt about getting married and that I could just enjoy the morning even with all that had taken place over the last week. My dad came to pick me up and brought me to the church, minutes before I was to walk down the aisle I got him to send one last picture to Sera just before I got married.
My time came and I started down the aisle, looking to my future husband and then at the audience and truly embracing the moment. Then I briefly looked up on the stage to see my brother and best friend and instead, I saw my sister. I gasped, so loud that the whole room echoed, and the audience erupted in giggles as if they were all in on it. Tears started streaming down my face, it was a miracle. I couldn't believe it.
I found out afterwards that she got a pass from the hospital and came out on a short leave. I was so excited. By the time I reached the end of the aisle, everyone was crying and it was a truly wonderful moment that I'll never forget.
