13 Mar, 2021The story of our wedding
My fiance was lying in bed on a Sunday morning at the end of June, 2019, thinking that he is running out of time to propose because I'd want to tell/show my work friends in person (teacher). We had so much going on that week he decided to seize the moment. I woke up and couldn't find him - I even checked the bathrooms! I saw his car was gone so I called him. He told me he'd be back soon, but I kept asking, to which he responded, "You're so nosy... I'll be back in a few". So I stood half asleep at the coffee maker wondering if he's bringing coffee or I should make it. He then opened the door holding roses. I asked something about why flowers and he said, "I figured it goes well with this," and took out the box and got down on one knee. I think he was more excited that he managed to surprise me than anything else!
We immediately fell in love with pictures we found of the red bridge in Stewart Park as well as the space at Code's Mill in Perth. We were overjoyed when we found out that both locations were within 100m of each other; it seemed meant to be. It was going to be perfect for our NYE 2021 wedding.
Continue reading »As covid hit, we were so thankful that we were having a winter wedding (we finally had others on our side too haha!). Needless to say, covid stuck around. We reduced our guest list and added details we wouldn't have had before. Ten days out, while in isolation because I had a student who tested positive, we learned we were going into the second lockdown in Ontario and we would not be having even our new version of our dream wedding. We quickly pivoted and adapted to the new scenario - postponing our date to my birthday in March but still arranging to have an intimate legal ceremony with just our immediate family, on NYE. We quickly ordered new outfits and arranged for some florals at Stewart Park (where our ceremony took place). We decided to still stay at the hotel we had booked for the night to keep things special and in order to celebrate this big moment in time, with some virtual get togethers but also time to savour it all ourselves.
As the lockdown carried on, we worried but tried to stay positive; our vendors were beyond accommodating and optimistic. Finally, lockdown lifts and Perth is in GREEN!! Our day arrived and we could not even have imagined how perfect it would be. Even with the restrictions, it was beyond amazing. The love, the intimacy, the time we could spend with our guests (in person and virtually) - it was so incredibly special. We would not change a thing! We did it!
