Due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, we married at home, in a significantly-downsized wedding. Nevertheless, we were still able to work with our wonderful WeddingWire photographer, Nathalie Terekhova!
Minutes before our ceremony, a thunderstorm began. However, ten minutes after the scheduled ceremony time, the clouds parted. We enjoyed beautifully mild, sunny weather for the rest of the afternoon.
My mother officiated the ceremony on the front steps of our house. A very small group of friends and family witnessed our wedding, in a socially-distanced manner.
Our wedding was far simpler than we expected, without the benefit of makeup, hair, and other niceties (in compliance with the pandemic rules). I also wore a simpler, red, embroidered Chinese dress, rather than the heavily-embroidered and more elaborate wedding qipao I'd originally planned to wear.
However, we still (safely) enjoyed certain wedding traditions with our guests. In particular, we danced the "YMCA" together in the front yard (in a socially-distanced manner), we played the "shoe game," and my husband "tossed the garter" (a "love" heart pillow, in our case) to his friends.
