30 Sep, 2023The story of our wedding
Our wedding was the best day of our lives! It was rustic elegance in theme, at Kortright Centre for Conservation. Ceremony in the Cathedral of Trees, Cocktail Hour in the Glass House, and Reception in the Forest Gallery. Colours were dusty blue, gold, white, pink and green. We had 100 people that we love the most to celebrate us, and the weather was perfect. The speeches were so touching, and we felt so much love. The first look was probably our favourite part of the day, just seeing each other for the first time and having a moment before the hectic rest of the day. We also loved, of course, dancing the night away!
Our proposal story, in the words of my now-husband: The plan started in motion when we went to go look at rings in August of 2021. It wasn’t set in stone that I was going to propose, we just went so I could get an idea of what Karlee likes so when I did, I knew what to get. As we walked around and tried different rings, Karlee put on a cut that she didn’t think would look good on her, but as soon as we saw it on her I knew that was the one, and I knew I wanted to buy it ASAP. It’s a beautiful oval cut diamond, with a halo of smaller diamonds, and 2 diamonds on the sides of the larger one. Except when I purchased it, I asked them to remove the 2 side diamonds because early in our relationship Karlee mentioned she liked a ring in the show ‘Friends’, that had a diamond with 2 sapphires. From the moment she told me that, I knew that’s what I was going to get her. So, I picked up the ring 2 weeks later, and took it to a custom jeweler who put in 2 small sapphires for me, and voila I had the perfect ring! Now I just needed the perfect spot to do it. I was originally planning on doing it in the spring, by taking her to a park in Toronto where Cherry Blossoms bloom that time of year. But, a few months later, in the fall, we wanted to go on a cute date. I told her I’d plan it, and to leave it to me. As I scoured around for ideas, I saw a farm nearby that has a pumpkin patch, a corn maze, and a petting zoo. All the fun fall things. That’s when it hit me, this is the most ideal spot to do it. So that day I packed up my camera, which didn’t raise any alarms since I usually took it with us to places like this. We spent the day in some pretty crummy weather, but still had a great time. At around 5pm, we went to the Apple Orchard to pick some apples. The rain had just stopped, and the sky was a brilliant golden colour. I told her we should take a couple cute pictures in the middle of the orchard, and I set up my camera. We took some pics, as I whispered cute things in her ear. Then I set the camera up to take many shots at once, returned to her and said “Hey, will you do me a favor?” and I got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?” and her exact words were “Oh my god, is this really happening right now???” And the rest is history!
