15 Sep, 2018The story of our wedding
Muskoka can not be any closer to my heart and Derek, my husband, has embraced it since we started dating. Severn Lodge was the perfect venue for us. It gave us total freedom of other weddings/people (we had exclusivity of the grounds from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon), providing the secluded cottage getaway vibe we were going for.
We have family friends whose cottage is on the Trent-Severn and they offered their beautiful antique boat, The Traveller. My dad also brought along his own wooden classic, Riot. These were the unique touches to our ceremony. The moms, driven by my brother, entered in on Riot and my father, son, and bridemaids and myself all entered in on The Traveller with The Dunsmoors as crew.
Derek and I are huge Indie music fans. In high school before we dated, our friendship was based on having someone who'd come to concerts. So the soundtrack of our wedding was less traditional. Fiest's 1234 played while everyone was seated and I walked down the aisle to Just Say Yes by Snow Patrol. Derek and I walked hand in hand as husband and wife to the Hall and Oates classic You Make My Dreams, then danced on in to the reception with My Type by St Motel playing.

We didn't want people wandering off so we handing everyone sparklers and danced among them to Blue Rodeo's Lost Together. It was a moment frozen in time for me!
The best part, with an open bar, having the lodge right there meant the party continued late into the night. My grandparents where able to head to bed in 5 mins to their room and we'd still get to say "hi" in the morning for breakfast (albeit in need of coffee and bacon BUT with zero judgement).
We closed the party with a dip in the lake to cool off after dancing and cuddled up by the campfire until 4 in the morning talking about how much of a hit it was. Serious wedding dreams!
