15 May, 2021The story of our wedding
I married my best friend, literally. Before my husband became my husband he and I had a very platonic relationship. We dated other people but always had an impeccable bond and always felt a strong connection that could at the beginning be described as more familial. We met at work and in our industry, we put in 15 + gruelling hours a day with one another and very often saw each other at our absolute worst and rarely at our best but it never phased us and instead, we pushed through it and offered support even during the toughest hours. It took 2 years and a Kendrick Lamar concert for us to realize that perhaps life and meaningful relationships are all about the foundation you take the time to build first when there is no pressure to be constantly beautiful and impressive to draw someone in. Perhaps it's about the raw moments and the truth in our imperfections that are most alluring because it means you are showing up to be yourself. And when something in us shifted, ever so slightly that night, he and I saw something in each other we hadn't before or pushed away somewhere deep below our consciousness. What we saw was staring back at us all along, it's something that people search their whole lives for, but didn't realize that what we had asked for all along in a partner was inside our best friend. It wasn't loud and colourful like fireworks bursting all at once but it billowed more subtly forging layers over time. After that night we knew immediately that we were going to jump in with both feet and do this life together. A year later he asked me to marry him, I of course said yes.

So, we got married on May 15th, 2021. We had a micro wedding with 4 of our close friends and we made it the best wedding we possibly could despite the circumstances of the world and we could not be happier.
In the end, it's not about the piece of paper, and many people told us that we would feel different after getting married, but to be honest, we feel exactly the same and we feel even more deeply for one another knowing that our commitment to each other is continuous beyond time and space and that is what getting married meant most to us. Love beyond measure with your best friend and I believe that putting your own meaning into your marriage will make it most successful, as it's your personal promise to each other and no one else's.
