16 Jun, 2023The story of our wedding
I proposed to my girlfriend of 17+ years in august 2022. We drove around Lethbridge visiting places that meant a lot to us, from our lives together. She had no idea it was leading anywhere. The first restaurant we ever went to as a group, the first restaurant we went to, our first place together, that sort of thing. Then we stopped at our favorite restaurant that we always went to. Osho's Japanese restaurant. We sat in one of the traditional rooms like we always used to. I had talked to the staff earlier and explained my plans and they helped me harass her. They kept asking her if she wanted something, so I could pretend I was fumbling for something in my pocket, but she never clued in lol. Finally I brought my hands out and she never realized I was actually holding a box. She told me I better not be pulling a Jim (from the Office when he tormented Pam about proposing to her).I told her, of course I wouldn't do that, and I opened my hands and the box and showed her the ring. She was totally surprised. I told her how much everything we had gone through meant to me and she meant to me and a bunch of other sappy things, which she didn't really hear of course. She said yes.
Continue reading »We found wedding wire which was a life saver because we had no idea what we were doing. We started planning and tweaking plans, and then throwing plans out & replanning. Eventually we settled on everything. Then out of nowhere we had family offer to help with things and we were able to expand our plans and make it such a much more amazing adventure.
It was a little windy but such a wonderful day. We had the ceremony at the Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens and they were breath taking. The wind had blown all the smoke awake and the sky was clear and blue with just the whispers of clouds. There was a breeze but it wasn't that bad. We had a wonderful little ceremony there with approximately 85 guests from all over Canada, from BC, to New Foundland and New Brunswick. We had guests from all over Alberta as well as New Hampshire & Texas in the States. We had the reception at the Coast Hotel in Lethbridge and it was a beautiful venue. The room was set perfectly and our colors were everywhere. Our friends had gone above & beyond and made sure all the little details were taken care of and everything went off without a problem.
The food, even with the mixup was good and the staff was beyond reproach. The music was spot on even though we had to keep ours quieter for the first bit of our reception due to the wedding next door, we all still had a great time. My wife and I really had such a memorable day. We couldn't have asked for better locations for the wedding or reception.
We love every moment of our journey, from planning to fruition. Wedding wire was such a huge help to us. We had no idea what we were doing but every little step was shown and it helped us so much. The budget planner was a great help as well.
