26 Oct, 2017The story of our wedding
In the fall of 2016 we found out Kurtis’ dad had cancer. His dad had been living with us and we had just moved to a beautiful farm on the outskirts of town. My father inlaw’s journey was a rough road and had many ups and downs. Kurtis and I frequently talked about getting married and how important it was for both of us that his dad be there, since my dad had died when I was eight and Kurtis was an only child. We always had said if things got really bad we would just get married so his dad could be there despite what the day would look like. Although, we hoped we would be able to have our dream wedding on the farm with everyone there and in good health. On October 18 2017 my father inlaw took a turn for the worst and was put on life support. Three days later, when they took him off life support and told us he was in end stage lung cancer, the first thing he said to me was that he wouldn’t be able to walk me down the aisle. We couldn’t cure my father inlaw, but we could give him the opportunity to see us get married. We had planned on doing the wedding October 28,2017 but I received a call around noon on October 26 that the doctors didn’t think he would be conscious the next day. In a matter of 3 hours we managed to pull together our wedding at St.Mary’s Hospital. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and it’s true. There are so many words and emotions that come to mind when I look at the photos from that day. We had the chance to take one of the most heart breaking moments of life and turn it into a beautiful memory with everyone we love.
