10 Aug, 2024The story of our wedding
Layne and I had been dating almost 3 years when he got down on one knee (finally! as many of our friends and family commented on social media -- obviously everyone knew what was coming!!), on a secluded beach in West Vancouver on a sunny Sunday morning in August 2023.
Well, I gave myself about of week of engagement bliss before I started the deep dive into wedding planning and wow - let's just say, am I ever grateful for Wedding Wire and REAL reviews from REAL brides and grooms. The industry is so overwhelming and it's the most important day of your life!! You don't want to mess it up!!!
Anyway -- fast forward past multiple wedding dress shopping appointments, countless vendor emails, bachelor and bachelorette parties in the spring, bridal shower(s) and we finally get to wedding week. OH what a week. Unfortunately, a couple very near and dear family members were last minute unable to make our big day. One being my own grandmother. I have to say, my husband stepped up in so many ways for me this week to help get me thru the last minute chaos of seating charts, and signage, and oh my god, we forgot a PEN for the ceremony we need a NICE PEN -- the drama, I tell you, over the smallest things!!
Continue reading »Wedding day arrives - I wake up early, excited. So excited. Anxious. I just want to be time to FLY so we can get to the ceremony and literally get the wedding started!!!
But - wow, what a special morning with my mother, mother in law and all my bridesmaids and flower girl. Let me also tell you - my hair and makeup artists absolutely MADE our mornings (plus a FIRE playlist); it is really so so important to gel well with these vendors!!! They're all about YOU today - and I really felt that. I cannot thank them enough for settling the nerves and just being there for us.
Photographers arrives - I put my dress on and holy moly - things are getting REAL. I mean, I have tried this dress on how many times?! but now I get to WEAR IT ALL DAY. I absolutely LOVED every single thing about this dress. I wish I could wear it more than one time - really is a shame it will now sit in my closet for who knows how long.
I have to say - once we arrived at the venue and finished our first look (no, he didn't cry but neither did I!!!, which was a big win for me and my beautiful makeup!!), the day truly FLEW by. Hundreds of photos beforehand. A little champagne toast with my bridesmaids before we walked the aisle. The ceremony is a blur -- but I remember laughing so much, smiling so much that my face hurt and being so excited to kiss my husband!
More photos after the ceremony - family and friends - and then off with my new husband for solo shots around the golf course grounds. I loved spending this time with him one on one - so many special moments in that short hour.
Back to the reception -- our grand entrance was something we had been looking forward to (we truly took until the final week to pick our music so we were HYPED). Dinner -- SO good. You kind of forget to eat all day // don't want any tummy issues so take it easy yknow? But wow - that dinner HIT.
Mingling with all of our guests after dinner was one of the best parts of the nights - it really nailed home just how many people love and support us. I had a moment of sadness when I said to my husband how I wish a couple people were not able to make it, and him being the best human goes "but look at who IS here - this is unbelievable. When are we going to see this many people we love all at once like this again?"....the answer is, you AREN'T!! This is when it really hit me how special the day was and I wish it could have gone on for days!!!
Post speeches, cake cutting and many many clinks of glasses - we finally got to hit the dance floor as husband and wife and the rest of the night is history. I left the dance floor ONCE after that. I stayed until that last call announcement and last song played -- we were the last two guests in the building.
If I could go back and relive the day again and again and again, I would.
If I had to have one - my one regret was not splurging for a videographer -- I truly wish I had more than just my memory. If you can make the budget work, get the video.
