8 Sep, 2018The story of our wedding
To say our day was a dream would be an understatement. I can honestly say that our entire wedding was perfect and we wouldn't change a thing! After some mimosas while getting ready for the girls, and some beers for the boys, everyone met up at the parents' of the bride's home where we had our first look. It was a beautiful, loving, private moment we shared (with our photographer and videographer in the sidelines). I'm so glad we did this it was an emotional and heartfelt moment shared between the two of us. We took some family photos and group photos, then hopped in the limo to travel to our venue. We had everything in one spot at the beautiful Treetop Haven in Albany, PEI.
Our ceremony took place outside amongst the trees. It was absolutely gorgeous, with mimimal decorations as the natural scenery was perfect. We decorated the archway with some greenery and dhalias from my workplace, choosing to keep things simple but still beautiful. The ceremomy was short and sweet. First we had the girls walk in to "Stand by Me" performed by Skylar Gray. My father and I then entered to "Make You Feel My Love" by Adele. Naturally, the tears started flowing almost immediately from both myself and Lyle, as well as our officiant, who was my former college instructor, and pretty well everyone else watching. We had two readings during the ceremony: Romans 12:9:16, and a letter Johnny Cash sent to June Carter. We concluded the ceremony with a "pinky promise", something that has become a staple in our relationship.

This was decorated totally by ourselves, all with decorations either purchased or made. It was quite simple, but still elegant and nature-inspired. The head table had a beautiful lace and wood backdrop with twinkling lights. All the guest tables were set up in a "family" style. They had greenery down the center, with various vases filled with dahlias. For a bit extra decor, as well as wedding favours, we provided personalized napkins with our wedding date and names. We all entered the ceremony to the song "Party Wave" by The East Pointers. It doesn't get much more PEI than that!
Our meal was catered by Melvin Ford and it was incredible. We served stuffed chicken breast with veggies. It was a hit with everyone! For dessert, we had our cake and cupcakes, which were a chocolate chip cookie dough flavoured and made by my sister-in-law.
During the reception, we played the classic shoe game, which is always fun! The kissing game was fun and also a classic - the Hershey kiss game! Guests would draw a kiss from the basket - if they picked gold, the bride and groom had to kiss; if they picked silver, they had to kiss somone from the crowd. Speeches then took place and again, more tears were shed!
Then it was time for the dance! To kick things off, we had our first dance to "Rose of my Heart" by Johnny Cash. After that was the father-daughter dance to "My Girl" by The Temptations, followed by the mother-son dance to "Cross My Heart" by George Strait. This then led into the dance which was lots of fun! We created a DIY photobooth using a tripod, iPad app and various props. Our guests had so much fun with this! We are so pleased with how perfect our day was. I don't think we will ever stop going on about how amazing it truly was. But of course the best part was that we are now married and our love is stronger than ever. We had some of the best people working with us, and had some amazing friends and family there to celebrate.
