10 Aug, 2024The story of our wedding
Firstly, Our engagement on October 8, 2022, was a moment I’ll never forget. Scott surprised me with a proposal on the beach in White Rock at sunset after taking me to The Boathouse Restaurant, creating the most romantic setting imaginable. He had arranged for a photographer to capture the entire moment, which made it even more special. The ring he had designed for me was absolutely beautiful, and I was in awe of how thoughtful and personal it was. But the real surprise came when my parents saw the box the ring came in. To their amazement, it was from the exact same jewellery company where they had purchased their wedding rings back in 1986. Ten, our wedding rehearsal day landed on August 9, 2024 - which also happened to be my parents wedding anniversary when they were married August 9, 1986. It felt like such a beautiful connection between our two families and added even more magic to an already unforgettable day.
Our wedding day, August 10, was truly a dream come true. The warm, sunny summer day set the perfect backdrop for our celebration at Northview Golf and Country Club, surrounded by 100 of our closest family and friends. I spent the morning getting ready with my mom and best girlfriends at my house, sharing laughs, love, and excitement. The first look we had in front of a beautiful waterfall was such a special moment, marking the beginning of a day filled with emotions and joy. Our ceremony, held in a stunning enchanted garden, felt like something out of a fairy tale, surrounded by all of our loved ones. The reception that followed was full of love and laughter, and one of the highlights was our first dance. We had choreographed it ourselves and practiced for weeks—it was a perfect, unforgettable moment. The entire day felt like a beautiful blur of love, fun, and magic that we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.
Continue reading »Another special part of the day was my family connections to the day. Of course, I was wearing my own engagement ring and new wedding band on my left hand ring finger, but on my right hand ring finger I was wearing my grandmothers 74 year old wedding band AND my Great-grandmother's 112 year old wedding band, to honour them as a presence still in my life. Those rings were my something old and borrowed. My something blue was a blue jeweled "hat pin" my grandmother used to wear in the 1950's, and I kept it tucked into my bouquet. My something new was my own new jewelry and veil. I had a "Generations of Love" table laid out as well, including all wedding photos from both sides of each family celebrations, with the oldest photograph of my great-grandparents wedding dating back to 1912! I also included another special touch by baking and icing my OWN wedding cake, and using the exact same tiers from my parents wedding they had used almost 38 years ago to the day (they had saved the cake pans and tiers), for my wedding cake.
It was the most magical day I could have ever imagined - and I will forever look back on the day fondly.
