15 Oct, 2021The story of our wedding
Sean and I got engaged at a beautiful cabin in 2019 - I had set up a couples photoshoot for the two of us, only to later discover that he contacted the photographer and changed it to a surprise engagement shoot where he proposed!Fast forward a little, I chose my dress, we found our venue, chose our wedding date (my grandparents anniversary and also little sisters birthday - we had plans to give her the biggest birthday party ever haha) and we were getting ready for our 2020 wedding!
Shortly into our engagement, an injury of mine got worse and I wasn't able to walk for a while. Sean was amazing, and helped me in every way he could. It wasn't an easy time, but we got through it together, and eventually I was able to walk again. I was so worried about our wedding day - being able to plan, put everything together and enjoying the crazy busy day that is the wedding day. I had already purchased my dress, but because of the style of it and my new limitations, we had to try and find something different that would work well, and be light enough that it wouldn't make my back hurt with the weight of so much fabric. I went back to Davids Bridal (Ontario), and the manager at the time was very accommodating, returned the original dress, and helped find a gorgeous dress that was light, easy to move in and fit my style well - we went from a very restrictive mermaid style to A-line. I am so grateful for her help, understanding and expertise. We ordered my new dress in my size, and the day after my first alterations appointment - the world went to chaos with the pandemic. Like many many couples, our date was postponed. All of our vendors were amazing and accommodating - we had a little troubles with the venue deciding on a new date but once that was sorted out, everything went well. Wedding planning can be chaotic and stressful - dealing with that during a pandemic is a whole new level of stress haha. With the support of our wedding party, families and the vendors - our new date for a year later was planned and we couldn't wait!

We went for a 1920's vintage/eclectic look that fit both of our styles well. My sister, a couple bridesmaids and I spent A LOT of time going to antique markets sourcing glassware for our décor and it was so fun spending quality time with them. While we were sad to have to move our original wedding date - the silver linings were still there. We had more time to plan, to spend time with our bridal party and not stress about timelines so much, and of course - keep our guests and vendors safe. Unfortunately, at the time of our wedding, there were still restrictions on crossing the Canadian border, and with nursing homes in Ontario. While these restrictions had a understandable purpose, it meant that we were still unable to have a majority of my fathers side of the family attend - notably my father, step mother, little sister (who's birthday would have been the day after the wedding), and my grandmother. We set up a livestream so those who couldn't attend could watch the ceremony - and the live streaming service was amazing - but it was still hard getting married without them being there. While restrictions had eased, and vaccinations were high - there were still many people missing from our celebrations.Life has a way of not going exactly to plan - but all in all, our wedding day was amazing. All the vendors were great, the friends and family who were able to make it had a wonderful time, our bridal party were phenomenal, and after 8 years together, Sean and I finally said I Do. All of the little details we planned, all of the organization put into the day and events turned into a memorable day. Even 13 months later, Sean and I still get complemented on our wedding day. We danced until 1 am, didn't get back to the hotel until 3:30am and after being worried about my back and being able to walk the previous year - I am so grateful for that year postponement. It gave me enough time to recover, get stronger, and gave me the opportunity to truly enjoy our wedding day.Life may not go to plan - but it will always provide you with what you need. Sean and I have such amazing family and friends, and our wedding day was one we will always remember <3
