The most beautiful wedding venue, however storm catering is awful to work with. Staff was unorganized and did not fill drinks. Head table was served last. Very hard to get ahold of and not responsive

This review is about the caterer at the Winnipeg Art Gallery which is Storm Catering.

I will start off to say that the WAG is hands down the most beautiful location for a wedding in Winnipeg. I could not be more happy with the physical location / look of wedding location.

Unfortunately, you must work with Storm catering if you want to have your wedding at the WAG. My comments are as follows:

Pro: the food was absolutely amazing. They are an excellent caterer. People are still talking about the food.

Cons: working with Storm (Mitch the owner)
-Mitch was near impossible to get a hold of during the planning process. I had to make alternate plans / choices on decor items because Mitch took so long to get back to me on details I had requested that the items I wanted were no longer available.

-Mitch will tell you that his staff with set-up your decor. Do not do this. Either hire a wedding planner for the day or designate a friend / family member to ensure that you decor is set up. Some examples include: I found my cake topper laying beside the wedding cake still in the zip lock bag it was delivered in? Why would it not have been put onto the cake? The little decorative signs that I had for the deserts were also laying on the desert table still in the bag. What a waste.

-Day of service. Mitch told me that he would be working at the event to coordinate staff. I did not see him (maybe he was in the kitchen). His serving staff are very young, but everyone was polite and professional. However, it was very obvious that they had not been given direction from Mitch. Throughout the night I had to go into the back to give the staff direction - like clean up the trash and dishes that were piling up and filling tables, the favors were not put out and I didn't notice until a good number of guests had left, when i asked staff to put out the favors they were just dumped onto the table. Staff had to be told to bring out champ. for the toast.

- here is the biggest ooopps from the staff. A guest asked if he could cut the cake. And the staff said sure and brought him the cake cutting knife and he cut into our wedding cake before we did. WHY! This should never ever happen. I do not blame the staff as this is clearly a lack of supervision / direction.

In conclusion - I had a very informal / chill wedding and was disappointed in the service from Storm. If your wedding is at WAG please hire someone to manage Mitch.
