The worst experience of my life
It was so bad it is almost comical. They ruined our wedding which was planned to be a food experience highlighting our cultural backgrounds, particularly around desserts.
The owner readily agreed that what happened was absolutely awful and that the employee was terrible, and should never have been put in charge of the wedding. They had fired the employee. But because times were tough for him (he had a family death) they could offer nothing other than maybe doing a BBQ for a few people and us (during covid!). They said they would discuss the request and call back on a day we agreed upon, but they never did. They did not respond to letters from our lawyer. Our lawyer suggested that due to covid it would be unlikely that the courts could process a claim that wasn’t designated important to the court, so there is nothing we can do. I have all the email communication showing the lack of replies once the contract had been signed; the difficulty of getting a hold of them until about 10 days before the wedding; the cancellations of our entire dessert menu, the main part of our wedding reception; and the photos of them running out of food, bringing the wrong items, pre-cooking items they were paid to make onsite, and them packing up early. Dinner was not ready when it was supposed to be and the wedding ended about 2 hours early because they ran out of food and began packing up, and so guests left. They also replaced all the stemware with red solo cups about an hour in. I cry every time I think about it and my powerlessness.

The food was delicious! They delivered
We went with them because we’ve heard from several people that they were really good and the food is good for a pretty good price. The food at the tasting was delicious and we were sold. People commented how they never had better prime rib before and how good the food was and how much food there was. I too was super satisfied and as a vegetarian, I liked they had additional options for vegetarians, I only didn’t like them I emailed prior with my seating chart and exactly where the vegetarian guests were sitting bit the staff didn’t know this on the day but it wasn’t a big deal, I just pointed out the people. I would highly recommend them. They were willing to work with us on our requests and they did an amazing job. Unprofessional and Unreliable Caterer
I hired Austin Gourmet for my wedding and waited till they have done their job to make sure I have a detailed and accurate evaluation of the company. Personally, I would never work with them again and I will never recommend them to anyone else. However, lets start with some pros:
Pros: decent prices, good food options, some of the servers were some what friendly, most of the food tasted pretty good.
Unfortunately, the amount of cons outweigh the pros. I had a lot of disappointments with the way this organization is run and it is not great at all.
Before the wedding issues:
- When I was organizing my wedding, Austin Gourmet was the first vendor I hired. I hired them months before the wedding, and primarily communicated with them via email. First, it is very obvious that there are multiple people running the same email, because they do not respond to your original message clearly, and sometimes not fully as well. The messages are also always unprofessional, unclear and sometimes very rude. They are slow to respond, and they do not care about the guest. However, when it came to asking for payment, they were able to contact me 2 to 3 times a day to ask for payment. They also made multiple errors in my invoice, and when I corrected them, they did not apologize or acknowledged their mistake. They simply sent me a new invoice and started harassing me for payment again. I paid it on time, but I do not appreciate them bothering me 2 to 3 times a day when they are unable to respond to my emails properly as well.
- I asked them if the caterers were able to stop by the day before to deliver the utensils so that we could set up a table, and the caterers can do the rest. The emails were vague, and the person responded back and forth with me saying, yes, no and maybe, and honestly on the setup day, it was unclear whether they would even be there.
During the wedding:
- Not all servers had professional attire. There were a few people (whom I am assuming were in charge of the servers) had very unprofessional attire and were happily walking around the venue despite their outfits.
- The servers were eating the food I purchased during dinner. I do not mind if they took some food. I get it. They have to eat. However, if dinner is still going on, I do not want to walk in and see them serving themselves while everyone else is also getting food.
- They promised me a water dispenser and coffee and tea services after food. They only gave everyone water at the beginning of the service, which was gone very quickly. And throughout the entire night, they had no water. I had to walk into the kitchen myself (where they were serving food for themselves) and I had to ask them for water. They looked at me confused, and then said water will be out soon. They started serving us water 20 minutes later, but it only took them that long because they had no jugs to serve water with. I had to find bottles that I brought so that they could serve water to my guest. I also paid for coffee and tea, and I had no tea and coffee was served late with no mugs. They had to borrow it from the venue itself because they are not competent enough to bring their own cups, despite being on the menu that I paid for. Might I also add that I emailed them to confirm about water, coffee and tea services after meals, and they did not do it well. It was a hot summer wedding, and there was no water.
- They said they had dessert plates for our wedding cake and will assist us with cake cutting at the beginning of the wedding. During cake cutting, they suddenly said they refused to cut our cake and will not help us serve it and that they did not have enough plates for the cake, despite originally saying that they did. We eventually found some on our own and did everything on our own.
The lack of organization with this company is ridiculous. The administration team mending the emails are rude and disrespectful. The company has horrible logistics skills, as the team who showed up for the wedding were unprofessional and did not have the tools to do their job. I paid for everything on the menu, and they could not provide. I will never recommend Austin Gourmet to anyone. Excellent caterer!
We went with BBQ theme and had brisket, pulled pork, and BBQ chicken for our wedding at Whonnock Lake. The food was delicious! Amazing Food
We got married on Saturday and have already received so many compliments on the food! We ordered the Westcoast Wedding Buffett and it was perfect, there was a huge variety with something for everyone.

We hired Austin Gourmet for their Sea Tim sky buffet and we were not disappointed. The guests absolutely loved our food and we could not believe how seamless everything was. You seriously couldn’t tel that they weren’t provided by our venue. Whonnock lake wedding
We just had our wedding on August 10th 2018 and the food was phenomenal!! We have nothing but great things to say about the caterers! They were so great to us leading up to the wedding and continued the great service day of! We would highly recommend!! The food was hot and there was plenty to go around!! Our guests were pleased and full and that is was we wanted! The food is unreal! We found the price to be very reasonable in comparison to others for buffet style! All of our guests are still raving over the food. We had the Sea to Sky Buffet and it was so much delicious food. It is a full service buffet and every course was robust and filling.
