Meet the team
Christopher Poynter is a professional wedding and event DJ, musician elementary school music teacher, outdoor enthusiast, husband and dad, in Victoria, BC, Canada.
Victoria DJ Chris Poynter has been mixing music professionally for 15 years, as of January 2018. Due to high demand, he mostly DJs weddings and corporate events, but is no stranger to school dances, fundraisers, special events, house-parties, and the occasional bar and nightclub.
Not the kind of person to just crank up the music and say "sounds good enough," Christopher also prides himself in having a great deal of experience as a live sound technician and recording engineer.
As well as running sound for numerous small acts, he worked at the Chief Sepass Performing Arts Theatre in Langley for five years, and later as a part-time radio host for two years at CFUV 101.9 FM in Victoria.
During his time at CFUV, he also enhanced his skill set by completing the course MUS 306: Sound Recording Techniques at the University of Victoria.
As well as being a professional DJ, Christopher Poynter has also worked as an elementary school music specialist in the Sooke School District since 2012.
Christopher completed his Bachelor of Education (Elementary) Degree at the University of Victoria. Prior to that, he studied Humanities for one year at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and Jazz Studies (Trumpet & Piano) for two years at Capilano Univerisity.
Christopher had a rich musical upbringing, having attended Langley Fine Arts School from Grade 1-12 and majoring in music as a high school student. He also studied trumpet and piano privately for several years during this time.
Because of his experiences, fine arts education is a key part of Christopher's teaching pedagogy.
Christopher believes that a successful integration of the fine arts is crucial for students’ creative and expressive development, and that integrating the fine arts can provide a stimulating and aesthetic atmosphere in the school, which contributes positively to the whole learning experience.
Christopher also believes that incorporating the fine arts teaches cultural awareness, self-confidence, problem solving, cooperation, and gives students the means and motivation to express their emotions.
