I am so surprised by some of the reviews on here. If I had seen them prior to going to the store I might not have gone, and then I would never have found my wedding dress.

Due to personal circumstances, I desperately needed a dress; I didn’t have a lot of runway between getting engaged and when we were going to be married. So with my mom’s help, we called different places asking whether there were dresses that I could get off the rack with little to no alterations. Lynn, the owner, assured my mom they had a decent selection of dresses that could be bought off the rack, and encouraged us to come and visit their store to try some on. I followed up separately to book an appointment. I went alone and met with an associate, Carol, when I arrived. I was a little intimidated that I was the only one in the store, but Carol was very friendly and immediately asked me what I was looking for and what my budget was so she could assist me. I hesitantly showed her 3 photos of dresses I liked, nervous that they wouldn’t have anything readily available let alone one that I liked. Carol proceeded to pick out a handful of dresses in my size (which she never actually told me) and with each one I tried on she asked me what I liked and didn’t like. Her experience was evident when she provided me with her own opinion after I asked for it, about what looked good and what didn’t on my body. After the first two she confidently pulled out a couple dresses that were more suited to the simplicity I was favouring. It was the fourth dress I tried on and I liked it immediately; although I started gaslighting myself thinking there’s no way I had found my dress within the first 30 minutes of stepping into the store. Carol was so experienced, kind, and could see I was second guessing my gut feeling, so she encouraged me to try on a few more, each one aligned with elements or features I had told her I liked. I didn’t love any of them as much so it was clear I had found my dress. When I came out of the dressing room holding the dress she assisted me with purchasing and walked me through next steps: Carol stated I could take it anywhere to be altered since I only needed minor adjustments (a tuck at the hips, shortening the straps, hemming the bottom of the dress) but if I wanted, I could bring it back to the seamstress they were partnered with (they have a small office in the back of the store). Carol clarified that it was a separate business, and that I could book an appointment with Kay for a different date/time. So an hour after I walked in, I walked out carrying a dress I loved that fit me nearly perfectly. Promises and Lace was the first bridal store I went to. Two days later, I had another appointment at a different bridal store (in downtown Toronto) and did not find anything else that I liked. The other store had 1 on 1 service, however Carol’s experience spoke volumes as the associate from the other store was not as helpful in showing me styles I liked, or showing me options in my budget. A week later I was back at Promises and Lace to meet Kay for minor alterations. Kay was also wonderful and knew exactly where it needed a little here and there, she pinned it and I was so happy with it. After that I only tried it on once more to make sure the alterations were what I wanted and the rest is history! On wedding day I received so many compliments on my dress and I felt beautiful and like myself the whole time. I had also practiced our first dance with a longer skirt similar to my dress, and in my heels, so our routine went off without a hitch. I would recommend Promises and Lace anytime; the experience and professionalism in the service I received from Carol and Kay was far above the other store I went to. They made me feel looked after, listened to, and were totally accommodating to my needs and circumstances.

I bought my dress and veil from Promises & Lace in March of 2022 for my September 2023 wedding. Everyone at the shop is incredibly friendly, and very experienced. It was such a nice experience to have found my dress here. Carol is the person who found my dress for me. She was such a pleasure to work with, and to me that is so important during the process of planning one of the most important days of my life. They kept my budget in mind when presenting me with dresses to try on. As a plus size bride it was so great to have sample size dresses that fit, and ultimately I was able to see and choose exactly what I liked and did not like. The entire staff is extremely professional, yet somehow with each visit it felt like visitng family. I felt beautiful, valued, and safe with every interaction I had with everyone at Promises and Lace. It is clear that they love what they do, and providing brides with top quality service is their priority. Timelines and estimates given were spot on, so we were able to coordinate order and delivery with ample time for alterations. The attention to detail, the professionalism, and the charisma of Carol, Lynn and the entire team made the entire experience that much more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this shop for all things wedding. I am so grateful to the entire staff for all of their help in making my wedding a dream come true!

After having a bad experience with another store and losing my first dress in the Covid fiasco- I ended up here in March 2021 and found my new dream dress. We had a lovely appointment and ordered my dress with confidence.

Flash forward to March 2022- my dress was 2
Months late arriving- the store was very unhelpful- many calls placed and no voicemails returned. When the dress did arrive- after many frustrated calls- it was the wrong dress in the wrong size, 2 months away from my wedding….. the supplier did let the store know my dress was discontinued- the owner decided not to tell me and let them ship a similar dress without my consent. Inexcusable. I even reached out to the manufacturer, and they too were shocked the store had done this.

I was given some customer service from the owner once it was proven that it was the wrong dress and it was the stores mistake - but in the end, what was agreed upon and what actually happened were two different things. She never followed up. And the store staff (except 1 associate) were so rude and unhelpful. Uncaring. And I’m out hundreds of dollars.

I ended up having to alter the dirty sample dress- which was to be cleaned- and when unbagged at home 3 days prior to the wedding had dirt all up the train. Could not believe it…

The only saving grace of this day was their seamstress- she was amazing beyond belief- and worked with me when the store wouldn’t. She even brought me to her home late at night to help as she could see how upset I was and was disappointed in the store’s response. She made this experience salvageable. I would highly recommend her. My dress was beautiful…. But it didn’t fit as it should… she did her absolute best. And for that I am grateful.

Do yourself a favour and shop elsewhere. Not worth the hassle- and definitely not the place if you’re looking for a feel-good-bridal-moment.
I had been to several stores in the area with one of my bridesmaids (who was also getting married) and no store seemed to have anything good to say about this place. I was warned multiple times by 6 different bridal stores that I was going to have issues… and I sure did.

Don't shop here! you are making a gamble! You may or may not get your dress and the owner is super rude there. She does not care about other people.

A wonderful boutique with tons of options. They were great at taking my inspo pics and figuring out fits and designers that would work based on my photos. Recommend booking your fitting appointment ahead of time.

My bridesmaids bought their dresses from promises and lace. I was extremely worried because Covid hit and things got shut down while waiting for the dresses to come. They assured my bridesmaids that they would come and without fail they did the dresses look stunning a beautiful blue and great detail on the back. We did not alter the dresses rather the girls took their dresses to have them altered elsewhere. As the bride I felt a little snubbed by the women who work there because I did not purchase my wedding dress from them however they did treat the bridesmaids very sweet. The dresses came on time and looked beautiful so I was happy.

I recommend checking out even if you have a budget in mind. Then dresses here were mostly above my price range, but the owner was able to accommodate me and provide me with a sample dress that was within my budget. After a few fittings I said yes to the perfect dress! The staff and service are excellent and the store is a beautiful too. It was overall a great experience!

We had a great experience wedding dress shopping here. Our stylist pulled dresses that were exactly what I thought I wanted but also pulled dressed that she thought would look good on my body type. We ended up going with one she picked! We had the option of buying off the rack to save money which was also appreciated. I got my dress altered in store and my mother also got hers altered there and both turned out perfect. Would recommend.

Carole and the team at Promises and Lace made us feel like family from the moment we walked in the door. Anna (our seamstress) worked tirelessly to ensure my dress was pictured perfect and just how I wanted it. This team will do what’s needed to ensure you find your perfect dress and you are happy!!

The only issue we ran into was with the owner (Lynn) as there seemed to be a miscommunication with the staff who ensured me my dress would be in by July, when truly the delivery date was over a month later. Everything worked out but I was made to feel like I was in the wrong and that’s stressful as a bride who’s 6 weeks out from her wedding with zero communication from the owner as to status.

3 of my bridesmaids and my lovely mom ordered their dresses for our wedding from Promises and Lace. They had a nice area for us to try on dresses together. Both of the ladies were there to help us wit h whatever we needed. Only heads up we would give is that there are only 2 change rooms. That's the only thing! Not a downfall just so those with many bridesmaids know :). Overall a great experience.
