Experience

In 1873, Stephen Tidy came to Canada and built a small suburban greenhouse at 477 Ontario Street, where he operated as a grower until 1877. Realizing the demand in market, he opened the retail business S. Tidy and Sons Limited. It was then relocated to King Street West. Tidy’s three sons, Stephen, William, and Charles, worked with their father and opened a second flower shop on Yonge Street. Tidy’s legacy remained even after his demise in 1896, when another store was opened on King Street. Elliott purchased the company after the death of Charles Tidy in 1947. He became president in 1948. Elliott's son Nick, an engineer with General Electric, joined the business in 1951, and 13 years later bought out his father. After his father's death in 1974, Nick Lye became president, with younger brother Douglas at his side. In 1983, Janet Lye, Elliott's granddaughter, become the new president of Tidy's Flowers. Tidy's Flowers has undergone countless historical moments crossing three centuries.
