6 Things You May Forget to Do During Your Wedding (But Shouldn’t)

There’s no doubt about it, weddings can be quite chaotic. Here are a few things you’ll want to add to your mental checklist.

Bryn & Natasha

On the day of your wedding you are going to be one busy bee. Primping, prepping and basking in all that newlywed love is going to take up most of your time, but you don’t want to forget the necessities. Even if you’ve planned your day from start to finish, you’re bound to forget a few vital things along the way. While you may think you’re on top of your game, here are a few things you’ll want to add to your checklist (just in case).

Here are a few things you shouldn’t forget to do during your wedding.

Sign your marriage license
You’ve put a lot of work into planning your perfect wedding, so at the end of the day you’ll want your union to be legal. This means you’ll need to get that marriage license done and dusted (aka signed) before shimmying off to your reception to party the night away. After exchanging rings you’ll most likely be too overwhelmed with emotion to think about paperwork, so remember to ask your officiant, MOH and best man for a reminder. Seriously, this is the most important document of your big day, so don’t let it slip your mind!

Grab a bite to eat
Remember spending countless sleepless nights perfecting your drool-worthy wedding menu? Well, now’s the time to taste the fruits of your labour! Don’t forget to test out all of those tasty crudités and canapés at your cocktail hour (get your caterer to send some to your dressing room if you’re not going out to mix and mingle) and sneak away from your family and friends long enough to sample the meal you’ve planned. Don’t skip the cake, either! You deserve more than just one bite.

Hit the restroom
Yes, you’ll want to maximize every minute of your wedding day, from primping to the last dance of your reception - however, you shouldn’t forget about bathroom breaks. Peel yourself away from your friends and family a few times to do your business and touch up your hair and makeup. Pro tip: you’ll want to bring one of your bridesmaids along, navigating all that tulle is often more than a one man job.

Give thanks
Don’t forget to be a gracious host/hostess! Remember to thank your wedding’s MVPs for all their help along the way. This means giving your mom and dad some love, hugging your bestie and giving props to your vendors for their services. Don’t skip giving credit where credit is due!

Tip your vendors
Speaking of giving your wedding’s A-Team some gratitude, don’t skimp on gifting your vendors with a monetary thank-you when your wedding comes to a close. You’ll probably want to rush off to your after party or hop in your getaway car to ride off into the sunset with your S.O., so have one of your wedding party members take care of this for you so that you can enjoy your evening. If you’re not sure how much you should be tipping, we’ve got you covered with this cheat sheet.

Get some alone time
Your wedding day will be filled with hugs, handshakes, dancing and congratulations - and while celebrating with your loved ones is essential, you don’t want to forget to take some time for yourselves. Sneak away for a few moments with your partner to recuperate and rejoice in private - after all, the two of you are what this day is all about.
