Here are 10 Vancouver wedding venues for every type of couple.
For the artists: Vancouver Art Gallery (750 Hornby Street)
If the two of you love discussing Matisse and Modigliani and checking our art exhibitions, tying the knot at the Vancouver Art Gallery may be the way to go. It’s the perfect backdrop for your ceremony and reception and has plenty of stunning spots for wedding photos (including marble staircases and a beautiful grand foyer). It has six unique event spaces available, the largest of which can accommodate up to 220 seated guests.
For the historians: Museum of Vancouver (1100 Chestnut Street)
If you want your wedding to go down in history, head to the Museum of Vancouver to say your vows. You can make use of the Learning Lab and Patio or the Joyce Walley Room - which offers stellar views of Vanier Park and English Bay. Concerned about space? It has enough room to comfortably fit 350 guests, so you can invite all of your friends and relatives (and probably a few acquaintances, too).
For the elegant duo: The Permanent (330 West Pender Street)
If you love the glitz and the glam, consider bringing your wedding celebration to this West Pender Street Venue. The Permanent has taken over what used to be the first Western branch of the Bank of Canada and turned it into a luxurious venue. Its event space has a gorgeous domed stained-glass ceiling, polished wooden floors, a sixteen-foot bar and plenty of space for your nearest and dearest to mix and mingle. It can accommodate 130 guests for a seated dinner or upwards of 250 guests for a cocktail-style affair.
For the beer fanatics: Granville Island Brewing (1441 Cartwright Street)
Canada has no shortage of amazing brewery wedding venues, and this Granville Island spot is definitely one of its best. Its taproom - which has 40-foot ceilings, exposed wood beams and trendy copper light fixtures - is the ideal spot for a more laid-back reception. It can accommodate 55 guests for a seated dinner or 90 guests for a cocktail-style event.
For the foodies: Brix & Mortar (1138 Homer Street)
So, you and your soon-to-be spouse are total foodies? Consider hosting your big day at a Vancouver restaurant venue. Brix & Mortar is one of the best options in the city, combining drool-worthy food and drink with a downright stunning atmosphere. The 1912 Yaletown heritage building has brick walls, shimmering chandeliers and a healthy dose of greenery - making it a beautiful spot to say your ‘I dos’. It can fit 95 guests for a seated dinner in its main room or 26 guests for a seated dinner in its private room.
For the aquatically-inclined: John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse (7277 River Road)
Looking for a spot to tie the knot by the water? The John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse is the perfect place. The floating venue sits right on the Fraser River and boasts amazing views of the Northshore Mountains. Its event hall is equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows, a fireplace and lounge furniture, so it’s pretty much wedding-ready. The Boathouse can accommodate up to 150 guests for a seated dinner or 180 guests for a cocktail-style event, so you can probably add a few extra plus ones.
For the hipsters: SoundHouse Studios (33 West 8th Avenue)
If you want something hip and modern, a loft-style venue is the way to go. SoundHouse studios is one of the best industrial-chic Vancouver wedding venues and can easily be transformed to fit your wedding theme. Inside you’ll find a wooden wall, black beamed ceilings, factory windows and polished floors. It’s got enough space to host 100 guests, so don’t go overboard with your invites.
For the thespians: BMO Theatre Centre (162 West 1st Avenue)
This ultra-modern Vancouver wedding venue will showcase your love for all things theatre-related on your big day. You’ll get to make use of the entire Goldcorp Stage space, which boasts classic theatre seating and a centre stage (you, of course, will be stealing the spotlight). It has 250 seats, but can be rejigged to fit a more intimate crowd.
For the bookworms: Vancouver Public Library (350 West Georgia Street)
If you and your partner bonded over your mutual love of books, why not host your wedding at the Vancouver Public Library? Though you won’t be able to tie the knot in the stacks, you can make use of the massive modern Promenade (capacity of 400 seated guests) and Alice MacKay Room (capacity of 200 seated guests). If you really want to amp things up, think about working your love of literature into your wedding decor, too.
For the nature lovers: VanDusen Botanical Garden (5251 Oak Street)
For those who adore flora, fauna and all of Mother Nature’s prettiest creations, the VanDusen Botanical Garden is the Vancouver wedding venue for you. It covers 55 acres of land and has three beautiful outdoor spots where you can host your ceremony and/or reception (the largest of which can accommodate up to 800 guests). P.S. If you can’t decide between a restaurant wedding and a garden wedding, book Shaughnessy Restaurant - it’s located inside the VanDusen Botanical Garden and is available for weddings.
