This may come as a shock, but it’ll be tough to sneak in a bathroom break on your big day. Obviously, when nature calls, you can’t really fight it, but you can be proactive. There are a few key moments you can take advantage of to sneak away, so use them wisely - it’ll save you from needing to make an exit during a big moment like a toast, your first dance or wedding vows.

Here are the best times to use the washroom on your wedding day.

When you’re getting ready
Getting ready will probably be one of the more leisurely parts of your day, so take the time to use the bathroom. You’ll definitely want to do this before slipping into your gown or donning your tux - you don’t want to risk messing up your wedding attire!

Right before walking down the aisle
You’re probably going to indulge in a few glasses of champagne (AKA liquid courage) while you get primped and prepped, so taking a pre-ceremony bathroom break is an absolute must. You don’t want to be awkwardly shuffling around as you say your vows or sprinting out of your venue as soon as you’ve had your first kiss.

Between the ceremony and cocktail hour
Once you’ve officially tied the knot, it’s time to party. Instead of making a beeline for the bar at your cocktail hour, take a brief trip to the bathroom. There’s a good chance your eyes got a little watery during your ceremony, so you’ll probably want to do a few touch-ups - you don’t want to be sporting mascara tears in your wedding portraits!

Before the reception
While your guests make their way from the cocktail hour to the reception, make a little detour to the bathroom. It’ll take them a few moments to find their seats and get settled, so they won’t even notice you’re gone.

During dinner
You might think of dinner as “downtime”, but it’ll probably be one of the busier parts of your reception (surprise!). Couples typically make the rounds during this time, greeting their guests and having a bit of one-on-one time with them as they enjoy their meals. While you shouldn’t skip the mixing and mingling completely, you can excuse yourself for a few moments. Your guests won’t mind missing a few moments of face time - they’ll be busy eating!

When dancing kicks off
When your DJ makes the switch from dinner music to dance tracks, make a break for it. Your guests will be too busy getting down on the dance floor to notice your brief absence, so take advantage. Pro tip: this is the perfect time to make a squad trip, if you want to have a quick chat with your ‘maids or swap goods from your makeup bags.

Before you head out
Right before you hop into your getaway car and ride off into the night, sneak in one last trip to the restroom. Not only will this save you from a potentially uncomfortable ride to your hotel, but it’ll also give you time to refresh your look. Bring along your makeup bag and do a mini makeover - powder your face, add a little lip balm and wipe away any eye makeup that may have migrated down your face.
