Where to Get a Vegan Wedding Cake in Vancouver

On the hunt for an egg and dairy-free confection for your wedding day? Here’s where to go in Vancouver.

The Gluten Free Epicurean

Everyone wants to cut into a stunning wedding cake on their big day - even vegans. Unfortunately, finding one without eggs or dairy can be a little tricky. Lucky for you, a handful of Vancouver bakeries can craft confections that are A-OK for plant-based couples. From giant donuts to classic multi-tiered options, these Vancity city bakeries can help make your big day even sweeter.

Here’s where to get a vegan wedding cake in Vancouver.

The Gluten Free Epicurean (633 East 15th Avenue)
Head to the south side of Mount Pleasant and you’ll find The Gluten Free Epicurean, perched right near where East 15th Avenue meets the Kingsway. This spot does it all, savoury dishes, sweets and beautiful wedding-worthy cakes. Though not every item on the menu is vegan and they don't make custom cakes, you do have a fair few options, like earl grey raspberry, cookies ‘n’ cream,  German chocolate, vanilla and carrot cake (pictured above).

Le Gateau Bakeshop (3458 Hastings Street)
This East Hastings bakery has a knack for creating stunning cakes. From massive baroque-inspired designs to ultra-modern naked cakes, the bakers here have done it all. If you bring in your invitations, dress photos or pieces of decor, they’ll help cook up something one-of-a-kind to perfectly match your big day. It’s not exclusively vegan, so you’ll want to ask about flavours upon visiting.

Edible Flours (2280 West Broadway)
This cute Kitsilano spot is all vegan all the time. The bakers here craft confections using high-quality ingredients like unbleached flour, natural sweeteners and natural food colourings, so you’re really getting the best of the best. They can do everything from trendy naked cakes to classic, sleek styles that will look amazing perched on any dessert table. But, design is only half of it! Flavour-wise, you’ve got a ton of options, too - lemon cake with lavender frosting, double chocolate and Canadian maple are just a few fan favourites on the menu. Note: they can also do gluten-free and soy-free cakes, for those with other dietary restrictions.

Cartems Donuterie (534 West Pender | 2190 Main Street | 3040 West Broadway)
There are three Cartems locations peppered around the city, so no matter where you live, there’s never one too far from home. As its name suggests, this place deals in donuts, so don’t expect to find any textbook tiered cakes here. If you want to craft a tower or scatter them around your dessert table, the shop has a bevy of minis and regular sized donuts up for grabs. Or, if you want a more traditional, larger cake, they make giant donuts. Remember to mention that you’re vegan, not all they’re treats are!

Two Daughters Bakeshop (121 East 1st Street)
Two Daughters Bakeshop is another North Vancouver gem. The shop crafts 100% gluten free and vegan goods, perfect for those avoiding wheat and animal products. It offers cupcakes and cakes in two tried and true flavours - chocolate and vanilla, obviously - as well as pies, donuts, bars, cookies and tarts in an array of flavours. Its largest cakes are 12 inches, so you may need to order a few if you’re having a larger wedding.
