Hello! My name is Haruna and I am the first violinist of the Dante String Quartet. Since beginning my violin studies at age five, my classical music background has included solo, chamber, and orchestral performance with groups including the New York Youth Symphony, the Kanto Plains Honor Orchestra, and various local and international chamber ensembles and festivals. I've recently made the transition to and addition of viola performance, with her debut viola chamber performance at 2016's Toronto Summer Music Community Academy Recital. Aside from leading the Dante String Quartet, I was was formerly the Concertmaster of Skule Orchestra and is currently the Assistant Concertmaster of the Hart House Orchestra. I am a graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Engineering and I love to bake, sleep, and knit in my spare time. I bake one mean custard filled cream puff!
Hey, Sal here! I began studying the violin at the age of six, and I've never been without music since. Aside from playing violin with the Dante String Quartet, I am also a recording violinist for the band One More Thing and the folk group Down to Folk. My musical interests and skills extend beyond playing and into musical leadership as well, having been the former Musical Director and Conductor for both the University of Toronto’s Engineering student group Skule Orchestra and the annual musical production Skule Nite. I am the Quartet's second violinist and also the Quartet’s sound engineer, in charge of recording and mixing rehearsals as well as concerts. I am the namesake of the Dante String Quartet and I also hold the distinction of being fluent in the fewest languages in the quartet - one.
Hey, this is Jack. I began my musical studies at the age of nine on the violin and have since quickly extended my interests to the viola, the piano, and musical leadership. I am an original founding member of the Iron Strings Quartet from the University of Toronto (the origin story of the Dante String Quartet) and I enjoy continuing to be a mentor to the various musical groups I was a part of at the University.
My interest and passion for musical leadership first came to be with an Associate Conductorship with Skule Orchestra and now I regularly mentor the new generation of the Iron Strings Quartet. Aside from the Dante String Quartet, my experiences include playing with Skule Orchestra, the Hart House Orchestra, the Greater Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra, and various chamber ensembles. I am a graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Engineering and am well known as my mother’s favourite son.
