Meet the team
Hi! My name is Denielle Bassels and I'm songwriter, vocalist and bandleader from Toronto ON.
Here are some fun facts about me:
1. Serendipity brought me to music: I was trained in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture before a dream sent me to Switzerland in search of new life inspiration. I became a nanny for 2 years and the boy I looked after took drums at a prestigeous jazz school. There I met teachers and Students who introduced me to the European Jazz Scene and upon being prodded one night to sing with the band, I ended up joining the band! When I came home to Canada, I enrolled in Humber College and got my music degree. The rest is history!
2. I won 8000$ in The John Lennon Songwriting Contest started by Yoko Ono. The money along with help from the Canadian Arts Council and Toronto Arts Council, helped me fund my full Album.
3. I've been playing with the same band for over 8 years. I discovered them one by one. I feel like I have a hawk eye (or ear?haha) for great players who have a knack for creativity and chemistry within the band. These guys are like brothers to me. I love them so much.
4. I once shared a bill with Blue Rodeo. Couldn't believe how humble these talented guys were. My tongue stuck in my throat when Jimmy Cuddy shook my hand and said "looking forward to great things from you". I think my response was "gdgdjlfkjdslhhsoa".
5. I once saved a persons life. Ask me about it!
