Disappointing experience
We were unfortunately quite disappointed with many aspects of the services that we’re provided while working on our wedding, especially the lack of responsiveness. A big reason we chose to book wedding coordinator services is because of the many services included in our initial agreement, including (but not limited to):
- unlimited emails/calls
- email reminders of any outstanding things to do within weeks of the wedding day approaching
- Organization of the rehearsal and wedding day schedule– detailed itinerary
- follow-up with all vendors 1-2 weeks prior to the wedding date to finalize details
-Set up of ceremony site including; signing table, pen, programs, unity candle etc., (standard items as per bride and groom to be determined)
We were extremely disappointed to notice that leading up to our wedding, it suddenly became very difficult to get in contact with Teena.
I truly thought something serious must have happened as I have never heard of a wedding coordinator going completely unresponsive or missing a month before the wedding, for over 2 weeks, with zero acknowledgment of receiving emails/out of office messages, or anything. We did not get a response to our initial question we had sent until over 20 days later. Our experience contradicts what our initial expectations were upon booking the services, which indicated unlimited emails/calls.
Another item that was disappointing was the coordination of the final wedding itinerary. We had a challenging time obtaining this in what we feel is reasonable timing. Our wedding was on July 29 and I had reached out following up on July 17 (although I thought we’d even have it by then) in which we were told it would be sent shortly. We did not end up actually getting the first draft until 6 days later, on July 23, only 6 days prior to the wedding. This was also after many follow-ups and being told it would be coming earlier, but then not ever actually receiving it on our end. Due to the lack of responsiveness I did most of the final vendor coordination and confirming leading up to the wedding. I have many friends who got married, who also have day of wedding coordinators (not wedding planners) and their experience was entirely different.
In addition to the events leading up to the wedding, we were also disappointed with a couple of things on the day of the wedding.
We had clearly planned out where everything needed to go and gave everything labeled, with pictures and directions. We provided 3 gold pens with a post-it note indicating that 2 should be laid by the guest book, and one on the signing table at the ceremony. When we went to sign our documents in the middle of the ceremony, there was instead a bright blue pen, with my gold pen nowhere in sight (the gold pen was just left in the original box).
Another item that was frustrating was a missing USB with my husband and his mom’s meaningful wedding dance, which is irreplaceable to our family given my husband’s mom’s passing. After the dance portion of the night had began my husband asked for the 2 USBs he had given Teena back. Teena indicated that she only had one, which was provided and then Teena went to look for the other one but never came back with it. My husband had to reach out after the wedding, during our honeymoon to try and obtain this extremely important item. It was disappointing that it would not have been treated with more importance and that the time was not taken on the day of the wedding to look for it (since it was in Teena’s possession) so that we did not need to follow up after, and have my husband’s dad drive from Toronto to Orangeville to retrieve it.
There were a few other things that were frustrating, which Teena was responsible for coordinating through her role working for our actual wedding venue (another surprise after booking these services), such as the extremely wrinkled linens, and our missing sugar flower arrangement on our wedding cake.
After the wedding we did provide this feedback to Teena, in which she did apologize and acknowledge the issues and we did receive a 20% refund, however at the end of the day we did still spend a ton of money on services that ultimately caused way more stress for our wedding than they did benefit. I was very excited initially thinking the services would provide peace of mind and assistance, but instead booking these services lead to a lot of unnecessary stress and uncertainty as a result of the lack of responsiveness, and it lead to us trying to sort things out last minute, which I strongly feel we would not have been left doing had we not have booked Teena’s services. It is difficult and unfortunate knowing we paid a significant amount of money for services that were not aligned with the initial expectations set out in our agreement.
